LOS ANGELES - The director of the box office smash "Freddy vs. Jason" says he purposely sought more blood in the film to please hardcore fans of the slasher icons.
Ronny Yu — who grew up in Hong Kong — said the way he made blood flow in the film was influenced by the Samurai movies he watched as a kid.
"The first look at those movies I'd get a little bit disturbed," Yu told AP Radio. "And then later on, you're like, 'that's not real.' (The exaggeration) took away from the violence."
Yu said that he also had no other choice but to use a lot of blood because having Freddy fight Jason on screen is like Godzilla fighting a T-Rex.
"I don't think a T-Rex would hold back with a little scratch," Yu said laughing. "No he would get the eye ball out or pull a limb out."
Yu spent two weeks going through every "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Friday the 13th" movie to take notes of the two villains because he didn't want to re-invent anything, he said.
"Freddy vs. Jason" was the first movie to retain the top spot for two straight weekends since "X2: X-Men United" in early May.
