post #61  quote:

Possibly the worst thing about out post-modernistic society is that no one wants to offend others by saying their 'religion' or point of view is better than anyone elses.
But whatever people choose to believe, and however much everyone argues about it, there is ONE absolute truth and we will all have to face that whether we have agreed with it or not.
"The truth will set you free"

P.S. Its great to see how much work you have put into these references

What is Neo's--Thoma A. Anderson's middle name?

I have looked everywhere for it, but nothing. My own conjecture is that it is Adam , but that has yet to be proven. Based on my analysis of the films, I am led to conclude that they function as a modern Divine Comedy --by the way, it was the first modern trilogy after Sophocles' Oedipus cycle. The 3 films mirror this perfectly, and in the first tercet--that a 3 line stanza with a terza rima pattern, for you non-literary types--of the Inferno , Dante "wakes up" and his nightmare begins, just as Neo's does.

Any other ideas on his middle name?

Cool post #63  quote:

Come on, someone has to have some thoughts on Neo's middle name. I have to concede defeat on this one: if it is not Adam, then I truly am clueless about most of the things I've conjectured about on these boards. . . .

Someone pick me up or at least start a semi-cerebral thread that I can pipe in on.

YOU 'PITY' THEM? How horrendously condescending. You have tainted an other excellent post.

Some of the above refs are very obscure.

there are an extream amount of meanings behind the matrix and to say that one dosent exist is ok for your little world but the truth id you are wrong.
so unless you show hard evidence that says specificaly "there is no religious meaning behind the matrix" then i would just keep quiet

Please- a call for diplomacy... post #67  quote:

Let's be diplomatic about this.

First up- I am not professing my beliefs, but I say this...

Irrespective of whether or not the bible is the untouched word of god (before people correct me, I know that the bible does not claim to be, and that if any book does so it is the Qu'ran, and yes, I have read both) there is no doubt that some parts of it are beautiful.

Let's take the Sermon on the Mount, or some of Jesus' parables- can we deny that they would not benefit the world if they were put into practise by us all?

Now let me pre-empt the comebacks. I've read Leviticus. I know Deuturonomy. I know the anti-homosexuality statements, and I know that God rained fire on Gomorrah, and will apparently punish those who don't believe in him with a little bit of light hell fire.

The point here is that we could argue ALL YEAR by quoting certain parts of the bible to detract from other parts. But this is the danger of seeing the world in absolutes. We have to take from the book what we can, just as we all take from the matrix what we can. What right do any of us to have to force our beliefs on others?

The last few times this happened:

- Christians butchered Muslims and Jews in the crusades (yes, at the Council of Clermont in 1096 the pope <Urban II> actaully said that you would goto heaven if you killed in the name of God!)

- Muslims butchered Christians (date not needed).

If these atrocities don't teach us what the pitfalls of such staunch conviction and forecfulness are then perhaps we are lost. But whether or not we are lost to dust, hell or heaven is not a matter that should trouble this discussion board. We should be discussing the matrix in relation to theology, not our own prospects of salavation in relation to the bible.

So please people, let's back to what counts.

I just discovered this thread so I am late to giving the author mad props! great job and great analysis!

People need to drop their fear. The original poster is not advocating Christianity. He/she is just drawing the clearly intentional codes put in all over the Matrix trilogy.

It's all veyr accurate. Not one person has a decent argument as to why they would not be so.

I especially love the Twins' license plate. I never saw that one before.

Good work.

I think neo symbolises christ, i dont care what anyone says
M1) In the bible it says that christ would die and be resurected, when smith shot neo he killed him, and neo was resurected by some kind of miracle.

M3) *spoilers*i dont know if anyone noticed this(or posted it yet) but when neo killed smith and died himself, back in the real world neo was lying in the crucifixion stance
