Ok, if I create a machine for a specific purpose, and that machine performs its function well, and then SPONTANEOUSLY started showing me it was capable of doing MORE than I designed it to do, then I would either be FREAKED OUT, or I might be pretty surprised by my own genius. In any case, I'd watch the thing a LOT more closely. At the point when the machine started showing abilities I didn't DESIGN INTO IT, that thing becomes more than its purpose. It could go in ANY direction, especially if it continues its "EVOLUTION", so to speak. I can only exercise my right to destroy my property, if the thing remains under my control. If I allow the machine to evolve to a point where my control is even SLIGHTLY precarious, then the machine DESERVES at least the CONSIDERATION of the possibility that it is BEYOND being my property.
If the thing has a freakin' CONSCIOUSNESS, then the rule of thumb is even more important. Basically, we treat a lot of animals VERY BADLY. Beasts of burden like Ox, horses, etc... They have a ROUGH life. We have strapped heavy equipment to them, forced them to work hard all day, and then sent them to a tiny area in a poorly built building, with practically no protection from the weather, and give them barely enough food to sustain them. Of course, not all farmers that had beasts of burden treated their animals bad, but it did, and still DOES, happen. These are creatures that arae obviously ALIVE, but having life obviously isn't enough of a reason to give a being fundamental respect.
If we created machines that utilized artificial intelligence, even if that intelligence was only the equivalent of a dolphin, we MUST consider the humanity and morality when we talk of destruction, etc. Eventually, we'll get to a point where we'll have to reassess our practices towards beings with less intelligence than us.
Both the machines and man are intelligent beings with free will.
This is why the prophecy isnt going the way Morpheus thought it would- he thinks the only way to peace is by anihliation of the machines.
But thats not really peace, thats just one sided victory.
The Oracle hopes in Neo too: youve made a believer out of me; and: the only way to get there is together
Remember: out of all the cartoons in the Animatrix, the W Bro wrote only the Osirus and the Rennaisance I & II... and the Rennaisance shows a human race acting extremely cruel towards the machines, and generates emapathy for the robots: why do you think they did this instead of creating a history showing man's enemies as viscious monsters from the word go ala Terminator?
I was struck by this phrase "bless all forms of intelligence" it was in Second Ren. Can't remember if it was I or II, but it really made me pause. If the archive was produced by the machines, they seem to see humans, at least on some level, as on par with themselves, and perhaps hope for or imagine a time when all forms of intelligence can be equally blessed. If it was a human speaking, then they seem to have learned something from the days that this archive depicts
As we learned in the first film, and saw in the second resonance part 2, man scorched the sky as a last ditch attempt to destroy the machines that were growing in strength and threatening man's way of life. After that things went to crap, we lost and the machines used us as a source of power. The matrix was created so that humans would be able to live out a regular life, unbeknownst to what was really happening. No one's life in the matrix is perfect, as we learned from the architect and Agent Smith, because when life was perfect there was a disaster resulting in crop losses. On the fact of who is to blame for this whole mess is tricky. Both sides have justifiable reasons for their actions. Machines were treated as slaves, so they revolted. Man banished machine because of this. Machines prospered, jeprodising man's way of life. Machine tries a truce with man, this doesn't work. Man scorches sky. Man attacks machine. Machine counter-attacks man. Both sides suffer great losses. Because man is organically weaker than machine, they can not sustain what happens (nuclear war for one). Machines win, and use man for a power source. Man wakes up from matrix. Machines attack these people, because they endanger the very life source of the machines. If they free more people, the machines have less power and a greater probability of a disaster in which the system fails and all of man wakes up. Both sides are extremely brutal to each other. Just because machines are involved doesn't make this any different from our history and everyday lives. Did anyone catch the references to Vietnam and Tiananmen Square in the second resonance? No side wins. As the oracle said in Reloaded, "I've seen the future, and believe me I know- the only way to get there is together."
Kevin: Remember that one time when I ate those napkins?
Me: (laughing) Yeah.
Kevin: That was funny. Do you remember what made me do it?
Me: I'm pretty sure you just said, "Hey, watch me eat these napkins".
Kevin: (laughing) Yeah, that sounds about right.
The funniest music video in the world is Eminem - Without Me, when Elvis is sitting on the toilet, reaches in and pulls out a sandwich and eats it - where did that come from? roflmao

The second Renaissance is the creation of the Matrix. This was the machines way of trying to "bless all forms of intelligence." I wish the borthers had somehow worked this quote into either Reloaded or Revolutions, because to me it is the most central and most beautiful themes in the movies. The creation of the Matrix, the Oracle program, and all of the Matrix works together to serve as a test for the humans that when they pass, they can again live equally with the machines. The entire Matrix works to bless intelligence and succeeds beautifully in doing so.
