I haven't run the numbers recently, but at one point - SARS was spreading fast enough to infect 7 million people in the first year - killing 250,000+ of them.
They seemed to have gotten it under control a bit.
At that time, the death rate was about 4%. I notice now by looking at the stats that it has risen to 9% so far.
