And Stroud did that using a new putter he picked up post #1  quote:

NEW YORK -- John Ryan Murphy spent a while in the minors catching Dellin Betances, hoping they could someday contribute on a higher level. Chandler Jones Jersey . On Saturday, they teamed up in a major way. Murphy hit his first big league homer and drove in three runs, Betances earned his first win in the majors and the New York Yankees bounced back to beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 Saturday. "I dont think it can get any better," Murphy said. David Robertson posted his first save since coming off the disabled list. Mike Trout singled with one out and stole second, setting up a nervy ninth inning. Albert Pujols followed with a foul pop, and first baseman Mark Teixeira drifted near the stands. But when he reached into the seats trying to catch it, two Yankees fans reached up and deflected it away. "I understand it. People want baseballs," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "Its not what you want to see at your home ballpark." But Robertson regrouped to retire Pujols on a routine fly and struck out Howie Kendrick to end it. A day after the Angels homered four times in a 13-1 romp, they started strong when Trout hit a solo shot on the seventh pitch of the afternoon. Murphy lined a two-out, two-run single in the second that gave the Yankees a 3-1 lead. The backup catcher homered on the first pitch in the fifth, tagging Hector Santiago (0-4) for a 4-3 lead. "We had reports on him," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "He did a good job on a changeup with guys on second and third early. It was up and he just stayed with it to right field. And he got a first-pitch fastball over the middle of the plate and he hit it out of the park. So, those are two mistakes." Murphy made his big league debut last season and began the day 6 for 36 with one RBI in his career. He played two weeks shy of his 23rd birthday while All-Star Brian McCann got a day off. "The more time youre out there, the easier it becomes," Murphy said. Last year, Murphy enjoyed a special moment, catching the final pitches of Mariano Riveras career. Called up this month when Francisco Cervelli was hurt, Murphy made his own memory on this day. "Hell never forget it," Girardi said. Especially because the fan in left field who wound up with Murphys home-run ball gave it back to him. Murphy said the souvenir was going to his mom. "Im so happy for him," Betances said. Betances said he hadnt yet tracked down any mementoes from the game. No problem, the 26-year-old righty left with something more memorable. "It was good to get the first win," he said. Betances (1-0) took over in the fifth for shaky starter Vidal Nuno and pitched two scoreless innings. The 6-foot-8 reliever struck out three, and has fanned 19 in 11 2-3 innings this season. "Happy for the kid, hes been through a lot," Girardi said. "Hes had to change roles, he had to fight to get here." Said Murphy: "When hes in the strike zone, hes unhittable." Reliever Shawn Kelley got Pujols in a key spot in the seventh and Matt Thornton got pinch-hitter Raul Ibanez on a lineout with two runners on to finish the eighth. Robertson got his third save. He was activated from the DL on Tuesday after being out because of a strained left groin. Both teams started a 26-year-old lefty, and each lasted only 4 1-3 innings. Nuno pitched in place of Ivan Nova, whos set for Tommy John surgery next week. Trout hit his sixth home run, sending a solo shot into the right-centre field seats. The New Jersey native got a cheer from his parents in the stands. The Yankees loaded the bases in the second, and a balk scored the tying run before Murphy singled. A clean, hard slide by Kendrick helped the Angels make it 3-all in the fourth. He knocked down Yankees second baseman Brian Roberts, whose throw on a potential double-play relay sailed into the dugout and let a run score. Chris Iannetta added a tying double. Yankees centre fielder Jacoby Ellsbury made a diving catch with runners at the corners to end the inning. NOTES: Yankees RHP Masahiro Tanaka (3-0, 2.15) starts against RHP Garrett Richards (2-0, 2.52) on Sunday night. ... Santiagos teams have lost the last nine times hes started. He pitched for the White Sox last year. ... Yankees LF Brett Gardner was hit in the left foot by a pitch from Ernesto Frieri in the eighth. Gardner was examined by a trainer, hobbled to first and stayed in the game. Red Shane Vereen Elite Mens Jersey . The Denver Nuggets played as though they were already relaxing on a tropical beach. Love started practicing early for All-Star festivities, making six of 11 shots from 3-point range and totalling 32 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists to lead the Timberwolves to a 117-90 victory over the Nuggets on Wednesday night. Red Jerod Mayo Elite Mens Jersey . -- Packers cornerback Tramon Williams has been fined $26,250 for contact with an official, per NFL guidelines.FORT WORTH, Texas - PGA Tour rookie Brice Garnett grew up in a small Missouri town where his home course is a nine-hole layout. Garnett has gone from Daviess County Country Club and then Missouri Western State to leading at Hogans Alley after two rounds at Colonial. After starting with an eagle, Garnett shot a 4-under 66 on Friday and moved to 7-under 133. He had a one-stroke lead over long-putting Chris Stroud (64) and Robert Streb (68). "Im just keeping my head down and trying to make as many birdies as possible," Garnett said. "Im going to try to embrace it this weekend and have fun, and well see where we stand come Sunday." Adam Scott, playing as No. 1 in the world for the first time, had birdies on three of his last seven holes for a 68 to get to 1 under. He has made the cut in his last 34 PGA Tour events, the longest active streak. Matt Kuchar, ranked No. 4 in the world, had a chance to move to the top with a victory. But he missed the cut by a stroke at 2-over 142 after a 70. The 30-year-old Garnett is from Gallatin, Missouri, a town of about 1,800 people. He has only one top-10 finish in his 18 previous starts on the PGA Tour, and has never won on the Web.com Tour. This is the first time he has even been in the top 10 after the second or third round on the PGA Tour. "I think each and every week the rookies feel more comfortable. I know I have," Garnett said. You cant get down on yourself being a rookie. ... Its been fun, and Im learning each and every day." First-round leader Dustin Johnson (70) dropped into a seven-way tie for fourth at 5 under. That group also included Texas resident Jimmy Walker (68), a three-time winner this season and No. 1 in the FedEx Cup standings. Walker had a strange occurrence when his tee shot at the 17th hole appeared to nick a bird in flight ? though the bird kept flying before Walker made another par. "We saw (the ball) fly the whole way and then it kind of disappeared over the ttrees," said Walker, the only player still without a bogey this week. Ryan Allen Authentic Jersey. "I didnt see it." Stroud made five putts from over 20 feet, all coming in his last 12 holes. His made putts in the round combined for just under 221 feet, the most on the PGA Tour since Brent Geiberger covered 240 feet during the first round at Booz Allen in 2006. And Stroud did that using a new putter he picked up this week. "It has no lines on it. ... Ive been using another, but it had a bunch of lines on it," Stroud said. "I simplified my putting. Get over it, line up and try to bring the putter back square and back to the ball square at impact. Ive just been rolling it beautifully." Stroud drained a 16-footer on the 193-yard 13th hole, his third birdie of the day coming on his fourth hole. The Texas native was just getting started, with his first 20-footer coming at the par-3 16th when he made birdie from 23 1/2 feet. There was a 22-footer for birdie at the par-5 No. 1 hole, and he rolled in a 56-footer across the green at No. 4, the difficult 211-yard par 3. There was a 26-footer at No. 6 and yet another long birdie putt at his last par 3, a 34-footer at No. 8. "My driver has been bad. ... Ive hit it terrible the last two days. Really, really bad. But putted awesome," he said. "So I dont have to worry about the greens. I just need to get the ball on the greens. Usually its the opposite. I usually hit the ball really well and struggle to get the ball in the hole." On his final hole, the 406-yard dogleg-right ninth, Strouds approach was well left into a bleacher area near a concession stand. After a free drop and pitching to about 26 feet on the fringe, he two-putted from 26 feet for bogey. Tim Clark was 7 under and tied for the lead after four consecutive birdies only six holes into his round of 68. But he three-putted at the par-3 16th and didnt have another birdie until No. 9, his last hole, to get to 5 under and tied for fourth. ' ' '
