Okay, so here's the thing. I'm 49 and have been smoking since I was 12, average a pack a day. I don't eat especially well, although I do like fruits and vegies. Not for health reasons, just always liked 'em. But I also drink at least 8 cups of strong coffee every day, which is my main source of fluids.
I'm not overweight and my blood pressure is normal, although my cholesterol is a bit high. I don't remember the numbers, but it's up there. Also, I've been doing home remodeling and repair for the past 20+ years - up and down ladders, heavy lifting, sweating and all that good stuff, so I'm fairly strong for my size (180 Lbs at 5' 11" tall).
Well, the long and the short of it is that I think it's time I make some serious changes. Quitting smoking is, of course, at the top of the list. Won't be easy though, like becoming a completely different person. Lightening up on the coffee is also on the agenda, but I don't see any challenge there. And finally, it's time I started exercising!
I live just a mile from the lakefront, with all the bike paths and people running all the time. I could go there in the mornings and run a short way, gradually adding to my distance. Or I could just ride my bike - something I haven't done in a couple of years. I could also do some calithenics here at home - push ups, sit ups, jumping jacks, etc.. Oh, and stretches too. Hmm... that part's gonna be tricky. I'm as stiff as a dry board.
Well, it's gonna take some time. Not sure why I'm posting this here. Not really looking for advice or anything. Maybe just want to make the statement in a public way. Anyway, I think it's time I start living a more healthy life style.
I wonder if those vitamins in my fridge are still any good?
