Billions of dollars in Katrina aid has been contributed to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). bUT only 2 billion of that money has reached SURVIVORS of a storm that had 80% of the city of New Orleans UNDER WATER.
Foreign nations showed their concern by giving hundreds of millons of dollars meant to assist the U.S. gov get SURVIVORS back on their feet.
What happened to large influx of foreign aid?
The United Arab Emirates $99 mill +
China $5 mill
Brunei 1 mill
Bangladesh $1 mill
RWANDA $ 100, 000
Afghanistan $ 99, 800
36 countries $126 mill
Canada,Kuwait,India,Turkey opted to give their money directly to organizations they felt were truly servicing the SURVIVORS.
" They can approved a trillion dollars, but if it never reaches the people then it's all just a lie"
HECK! said this in post #2 : Probably with the 9/11 victims fund.
-HECK!
More likely in Iraq.
Where is the billions of dollars that were donated to The American Red Cross (charity)?
Hurricane Katrina SURVIVORS accuse The American Red Cross of hiding 2 billion donated dollars.
The Red Cross "Means to Recovery Program" was suppose to allocate a maximum of $20,000 ( this is it?)(per family to cover housing, furnishning personal living needs and heath care ( or " the whole nine yards").
Most SURVIVORS of Hurricane Katrina (and Rita) say they have never heard of The Red Cross's "Recovery" program.
Well I don't want to talk about all charities but we should remember that the red cross as a whole is not politically motivated and doesn't hand over it's funds to political parties. The red cross is the one chairty that all countries and groups seem to recognise a good example was the Moscow Theatre siege the Red cross were the only group allowd to check on the hostages. So I don't know if you can blame the Red cross for mis using funds ( if that is what you are doing).
The thing is with these emergencies the vast majority of the money goes out the window in the first few days you need to get food water, blankets, medicines these don't come free and they don't come chaep plus in the case of Katirna a lot of this was flown in then driven in that costs as well. Also has it been considred that the charity work is not yet over? take the Asian Tsuanmi a catastrope a million times worse and a such with a lot more money floating about now 3 years after the disaster projects are still being carried out and the money is still being spent so is it within the realms of possibility that work is still being done in NO and the money is still being put to good use?
Of course maybe charities should provide a list of what was spent and where but that would of course slow the good work down and would cvost more because they would some accountant checking everything they use. I know that in terms of taxes the charities don't pay any ( well not in the UK anyway) but maybe there should be braks in transportation costs for charties as well.

Hurricane Katrina SURVIVORS are aware of The American Red Cross's history. THEY understand The Red Cross is recognized by many countries and get the resources to be a world charity.
But THEY also see the difference in the time it took for The Red Cross to help for Hurricane Katrina and the Asian Tsunami.
In your realm of possibility, you also have to consider The American Red Cross can be corrupt and can be used by politicians to help America's image in the world.
THEY also wonder how could they couldrespond to a natural disaster (Tsunami) in another country faster than THE ONE in there backyard.

Well not just the Katirna survivors pretty much everyone in the world knows that, after all they are normally the first ones there.
But THEY also see the difference in the time it took for The Red Cross to help for Hurricane Katrina and the Asian Tsunami.
Yeah but to be fair the Tsunami was a million times worse than Katrina and when you consider the Tsunami hit multiple poor countries and Katrina hit one very rich country and when you consider the Tsunami came form nowhere and we knew Katrina was coming you can see why the Red Creoss mobilsed quicker for the Tsuanmi.

Sorry Can't see it and you wil struggle to find a reasonable person who could see that. How can a charity that has no link to governemnt be used by the government.

Well that the international red cross ( tsunami) and the American red cross ( Katrina) two sides of the same coin. The thing is as far as I can remebere they were one of the first ones to get to NO but maybe they took a bit of time because they thought like the rest of the world tholught that the USA in knowing this was coming would have contingency plans for this and as such charity would not be needed.
Read the article and it seems like a mis understanding. why people thought they were all going to get around $20,000 is beyond me and and the attitude of the guy " give us the money" is stupid, times are tough but if you got to go through a case worker then thats what you have to do maybe the RC should have brought in more case workers. and the women " I don't see whites waiting" is daft as well. If people are that convinced you find a lawyer or somebody and you take the RC to court to prove they are breaking the rules.
The thing is you and me have been comparing Katrina v Tsuanmi here and I think this article sums' it up, Katrina survivors - " give us money" " this don't happen to white folk" Tsuanmi survivors " thanks for helping"
