Actress Kathy Griffin's rant at the Emmy awards in which she told Jesus to "suck it" has triggered a petition campaign intended to tell Hollywood "Enough is Enough!"
Griffin, the star of the Bravo show "My Life on the D-List," was being honored for the Outstanding Reality Program, overtaking ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" after multiple attempts, when she launched into the tirade.
But cast members at the Miracle Theater in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., say they have had all they can stand.
"We, as Christian entertainers, do not take it lightly that the name of our Lord and Savior has been mocked, and in response, we took out an ad in USA Today to stand up for Him," the group said.
The group purchased a USA Today ad, for almost $100,000, on Sept. 17 to say, "'Enough is Enough!' The name of Jesus Christ should not be mocked, nor should those who love Him be slandered for their beliefs. It is time for people of faith around the country to stand firm against religious slander, bias, and bigotry of all types including Christianity!"...
HECK! said this in post #3 : I have never liked Kathy Griffin.
But the bible thumpers need to realize once again you can't censure free speech.
-HECK!
Christian entertainers aren’t trying to put legal restraints on free speech. Christians are exercising free speech by speaking out against blatant, in your face, hate speech attacking the name of Jesus and Christian beliefs. To allow only anti-Christian speech and ban Christians from responding to this type of attacks would be a restriction on free speech.
Don’t expect Christians to stand idly by while their leader and cherished beliefs are being subjected to nasty, hate-filled ridicule.
I understand why people have a bit of animosity towards Christians/Christianity given some of its history.
Every once in a while some bored broad with nothing better to do than stir up drama will flip her **** and go on a friggin witch hunt over something like Magic Cards or Harry Potter, or try to make it illegal to teach Darwin's Theory of Evolution.
But at the same time some of the people who claim to be "open-minded" and "accepting of people's beliefs" seem to apply this to everyone except for Christians.
quote:
"Mel Gibson. Michael Richards. Isaiah Washington. Imus. Jerry Lewis. Every time a celebrity offends a segment of the population, he pays a price, in one way or another. The question now is whether Kathy Griffin will pay a similar price for her outburst. And as we have learned, her verbal assault was calculated."
I can take a joke about God or Jesus or Christians, but this wasn't a joke. It was hate-speech.
Let me preface this by saying I am not a Kathy Griffin fan. I think she is horribly unfunny.
Now... I agree that Christians can respond to what they see as a jab against Jesus, but it's hard for me to swallow that there's some kind of outward assault against Christianity.

Um, that sounds like an attack on free speech.
And to be honest, it's not like it was some verbal barrage against Christians. Moral majority needs to pick its battles. This is where they draw the line? Yawn. No doubt there will be someone trying to teach evolution in Alabama and this story will be forgotten.
"a lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus.... this award is my God now!"
So what, you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all? She's an atheist. She tried to make a joke. An unfunny joke. Even if she's serious, so what. Who in the hell is Kathy Griffin and why is she consuming all these bible thumpers' lives?
quote:

'Um, that sounds like an attack on free speech.'

That is a Christian stating a Christian belief. We love and respect Jesus and believe he should not be mocked, although we know he always was mocked and always will be mocked. Free speech includes the right to criticize a statement made by another, but it does not protect slander.
I'm a Kathy Griffin fan, and I know this seems a little outlandish. I don't, however, see it as "hate-speech" against Christianity. It crossed a line, it offended people, and it wasn't even funny, but it was a joke and I'm sure it's all she meant it to be.
"Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord."
"Judge not, let you be judged yourself."
I live my life highly accordingly to these two quotes, and pray I'm never wronged to the point of forgetting them.
