This is my first time here on this board. I'm glad I stumbled across this website. I was hoping for some input from anyone who wishes to respond. I am taking a summer class, International Politics. I chose Israel as my topic based on international relations. I have a few general questions that were raised in my textbooks. I'd appreciated anyone who would like to respond by being rather specific. Thanks to all who can help.
The establishment of a Palestinian state would:
1. Rectify an historic injustice to the Arabs.
2. End Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory.
3. Bring peace and stability to the Middle East.
4. It will solve the Arab refugee problem.
5. It will encourage civic and economic development, raise the standard of living and bring contentment to the people.
6. Have the Arab people been treated unfairly or has it been primarily the Jews?
1. There was no injustice. arabs lost a war they started.
2. Yes, Jews do occupy Judea and Samaria....as they should.
3. You mean a peace where Israel gives away their land in exchange for a worthless piece of paper and the arabians plot Israel's destruction? No thank you - been there, done that.
4. arabian refugees are an arabian problem. Plenty of land in arabian countries for the last remaining arabians that were originally from Palestine to settle. Israel resettled 800,000 Jewish refugees from "arabian lands".
5. No more handout to arabians - let them start by creating SOMETHING - rather than destroying. It's high time they earned it.
6. Message for arabians: stop teaching hate in your schools and polluting the minds of your youngin's. It's really disgraceful.
ishlamic Salami said this in post #2 : 1. There was no injustice. arabs lost a war they started.
They were fighting for land which a colonial power, thinking purely of its own interests, decided to relegate to the Jewish people. All of the guarantees made by the British government included acceptance of the rights of the current inhabitants of Palestine: Arabs. Read the Balfour Declaration, the two White Papers, etc.
2. Yes, Jews do occupy Judea and Samaria....as they should.
This seems to be a fairly right-wing Zionist claim. Based on what? What right do Jews over Arabs? Religion has no place in international law, and the oppression of one people does not justify the subjugation of another.
3. You mean a peace where Israel gives away their land in exchange for a worthless piece of paper and the arabians plot Israel's destruction? No thank you - been there, done that.
Israel has expected the Palestinians to do the same for six decades. Each time there has been peace, Israel has found an excuse to grab more land. The occupation of territory following the six-day war does not mean that the occupied territories come under the sovereignty of the Israeli state. They are occupied territories, and international law shows the illegality of actions taken within this land, such as the construction of a wall, continued "targeted assassinations" which predominantly harm civilians, the usurpation of water resources, the migration of settlers. All of this is illegal and completely amoral.
4. arabian refugees are an arabian problem. Plenty of land in arabian countries for the last remaining arabians that were originally from Palestine to settle. Israel resettled 800,000 Jewish refugees from "arabian lands".
Arab refugees have a right to return. Many of them still hold the keys to their home which they were guaranteed return to. This argument makes no sense. Israel resettled 800,000 refugees in a land that should never have been Israeli land.
5. No more handout to arabians - let them start by creating SOMETHING - rather than destroying. It's high time they earned it.
"Let them pull themselves up by their bootstraps." Israel controls resources, restricts Palestinian trade, restricts mobility, restricts access to agricultural land, restricts autonomy, and frequently destroys Palestine infrastructure in its attacks. This argument is completely ignorant to the reality of the situation. They cannot create anything for themselves if they are not allowed to by the occupying power.
6. Message for arabians: stop teaching hate in your schools and polluting the minds of your youngin's. It's really disgraceful.
Message to Israelis: stop teaching hate in your schools and polluting the minds of your youngin's. It's really disgraceful. Israelis are just as guilty as the side they condemn.
