Edward Teach said this in post #1 : Will the addition of 20,000 more American troops make a difference in Iraq?
According to sources the new military leadership has brought with it a new direction. Do you believe that America will be successful?
Why?
If you can see a new direction that might lead to the insurgents putting down their guns and bombs please point it out. How many people have told Bush that a military solution will NOT work in Iraq.
The plan is the same old plan they've been trying for the last 4 or 5 years - weed out the insurgents in specific area (this time Baghdad) claim victory, and then leave the Iraqi security to keep the peace.
Can't see it working because I don't think throwing yet more troops at the situation and send at least 80 of them to an early grave is going to be suucesful. Recent history shows that securing major cities does not work Fallujah was once a secure city, Basra in the south is meant to be scured by the British but still we get deaths and casulaties and it is one of the most dangerous cities in Iraq, go further afiled and you seee hos daft the securing Baghdad plan is, in Afghanastan Kabul is realtivly secure and stable but the rest of the country is a no go zone a total lawlesss country that makes the Kabul government impotent. If you do by some miracle secure Baghdad it will alwys be tense and you run the risk of ionsrgents giving uo Baghdad and trying to claim the rest of the country something which will be a lot easier if you are focuing on something else. Plus I think Buish has forget this fight is not on his terms they insurgents can show up and fight whenever they so please if they are samrt they will focus oin other parts of the country for a few months and try to lull the US into a false sense of security.
