There is always going to be inequality in any society. The point I'm trying to make is not that society should be equal. It is that we should never just accept a widening gap between rich and poor because that is where our free market economy is dragging us. And I'm not just talking about the gap between the rich and poor in a country, I'm also talking about the widening wealth gap between rich and poor countries too.
We should not be slaves to the market, but that is what is being sold to us as the only economic way because it hugely benefits both the richest countries, and the richest people in those countries. Saying that I'm not against either free trade or globalisation, but this (almost religious) fundamental belief that it is the answer to all societies needs is flawed.
