What do you mean by "minorities? What is the definition of this word because I only see it being used to describe US and WE are not minorities. Why isn't this word used to classify other cultures? Who are the majorities?

I'm just courious what all these holidays the "white people" have are. The only holidays I know of that pertain to a sngle person or group that is whatie are for persidents and christopher columbus. I don't see abig discrimination going on there.
I'm not a racist person, I'm just getting tired of being accused of one just because I'm white. And also having everything I've accomplished being attributed to that fact. Some people work hard to get where thay are at, and its a slap in the face to have someone tell you its just because of the color of your skin. Believe me noones done me any favors.

I don't believe there was a specific mention of white holidays, just a mention of the lack of holidays celebrating black people/ accomplishments.
Here's an example of something you said in a post "Please name one of these Black holidays that you mention above that is recognized by the federal government because I can't think of a single one. What I find sad is that of all the contributions that many Black people have made to this country, there is a holiday honoring one of them. You might recall that even then the King Holiday was met with much oppositioin. Even today it is not recognized by most private sector companies. I would refer to that in many ways, preferential treatment definitely would not be one of them."
The comment was not directed specifically toward anyone. it was a general statement made because of several similar comments like this.
I was just trying to make a point that there aren't many holidays that celebrate a specific person, most of the national holidays are like labor day, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, and so on. You can't say that theres something racist about not having more holidays celebrating specific black people when there really aren't any celebrating specific white people (besides like Christmas and easter, but I guess it a matter of opinion as to if that's celebrating a white person).

I made the comment about holidays based on Kris' mention of special Black holidays. It was really just a counterpoint to what she had posted earlier. The holidays I was thinking about were Columbus Day and the Presidents' birthdays that are celebrated.
Nothing hurt, I just wanted to make sure that it didn't sound like I was labeling any holidays as White or Black as that would be ridiculous.

Black people are not only culture that is numerical " sub- group" in this country. Only one culture is the majority of pop. in America.
Why isn't "minorties" used for pop. in Africa.
That's right, Malcolm, black people are NOT the only numerical sub-group. The definition is broader than that anyways, so it's a moot point. HECK explained himself clearly, imo. There is nothing to argue there.
I'm not interested in what Michael Richards has to say. In fact, I have no interest in the opinions of "celebrities" in any fashion. They are doing a job, and that is to ENTERTAIN me. If I don't like their brand of entertainment, then I move on. I don't generally get offended by what they have to say, unless they have to say it DIRECTLY towards ME. That is when their opinion interests me, because I value myself based on my INDIVIDUAL merit and potential, NOT on my value to my race, or my association to my race. Anyone who does differently in my opinion is not properly "evolved" and really doesn't warrant much of my attention as it pertains to their opinions.
Michael Richards said some racist things. Is he a racist? I don't give a damn. Nothing that he says or does means anything to me. Nobody holds that kinda power over me. It's a shame that there are people out there who feel that their race deserves more or is superior to other races. That's junk, and I would never agree to that. I see ONE race: Human. I see ONE planet that we all live on: Earth. Look at the planet from space, and there are no boundaries or borders. WE have imposed those things upon OURSELVES.
Too bad we haven't yet come to realize the words of Martin Luther King, or the lyrics of John Lennon's Imagine.
