If you're not familiar with this type of game then yeah, it might be rough at first. The gameplay for the arcade is almost identical to Deception, the last game, so I had no prob picking it up.
Oh yeah, I remember the original. It was during the Street Fighter 2 hype. That game was the freakin' shizzit. Everyone played it. Then I was at the movie theater and saw this game. First time seeing Scorpion pull off his mask and torch someone you knew the game was the best.
When MK2 came out you would think aliens had landed. The arcade was full for weeks. Me and some buddies would wait all week so we could take the bus to the mall on Saturday and play that game. It was always so packed you would have to have your quarter up for like 15 minutes or more. And there was always those few kids that were awesome at it because they had like no parental supervision and went to the mall every day to play. The jerks.
Speaking of that, it's weird not having a lot of arcades everywhere. Remember having to put the quarter or token up there to show you were next. Tons of kids huddled around the game. Them's were the days.
Yeah, I can't think of how many kids used to pinch my dollars off me so they could play MKII. The jerks.
I eventually got it on Sega, so I was set. Back then, the characters looked kind of real... they try to make them cartoony now, because they realized the "real life effect" sucks.

I always find the big guys hard. No matter how the difficulty is set, giving the smackdown to a big monster kind of fellow is always harder than some dude or chick. Dunno what the deal with that is.

Big guys are harder though. Your combos don't have the same effect on them, they don't get hurt as easily, screw throwing and they inflict more damage. Of course they're slower, but that really isn't an advantage in most arenas. Places with stage fatalities I can mess them up though. I like beating up Goro, for instance, into that meat grinder level. I wait until he throws a combo, I block and use a power move to send his ass to Alpo land.
