I do not remember the actually declaration of the end of the Soviet Union in 1991, but I remember the horrible effects of leading up to it.
In November of 1990 thousands of steel works were laid off because new managers had taken over the plant.
I remember news stories about the fear of the pink slip that was so prevalent during the breakup of the Soviet Union.
