You're Generation Y - you're not supposed to understand. The pinnacle of comic book heroes was for Generation X and before. I know plenty of people, myself included, who are quite stoked about the recent surge of superhero films. This is why, possible exceptions of Hulk, Blade 2, and Spawn, these films are doing so well. So take it or leave it, really, but comics are and have been a big part of American culture!
