Enron founder Ken Lay has died in Aspen, Colorado, a spokesman for Lay's family said today. CNN affiliate KPRC in Houston reported that Lay was admitted to the hospital overnight with a massive coronary. Lay was awaiting sentencing after being found guilty of conspiracy and fraud.
I read this this morning. That's too bad, but I wonder if he really died of a heartattack. I hate to be a conspiracy theorist, but it's hard to beleive that he just died right before sentencing.
And I don't want to come across like it's just a money thing. It's more than that. These people worked for years, decades even saving money for their retirement. So they don't have to be old and work. Now that's all gone. They have nothing to fall back on. And these pieces of human waste stole it. Horrible. I think Lay got off easy.
I heard on the radio today that his death pretty much nullifies his conviction. This means that his family will inherit his money and go on like the whole thing never happened, although I'm sure there will be lawsuits. That's the part that makes me feel like it was a bit too convenient. I mean, come on, the guy was most likely going to live out the rest of his life in some form of prison . Gee, now he doesn't go to prison at all and his family gets to keep his ill-gotten millions. I say his estate should be divied up and handed out to the Enron employees who he stole so much from!
gaboman said this in post #4 : I saw this as breaking news early yesterday evening (on CNN). I love how they keep describing him as scum, even after his death. Poor fellow.
Poor fellow??? Are you kidding me? Don't get me wrong, I will never celebrate someone's death. BUT, I'm sorry, scum in life = scum in death. Death does not erase his actions. Would you rather he was talked about as a stand-up guy or saint because he's dead? I'm sorry, ain't happening!
I just meant it would be pretty bad to be hated that much, niwrad.
As for your other post: yes, he's dead. No he's not going to prison. Because he's dead. D-E-D, dead. Meaning no more, finito, just a pile of skin and bones now.
His estate will be sued, though, like Heavens said.
