Apparently he wrote down the wrong name when he booked Simunic the first time. He wrote down Craig Moore's name instead and didn't realise his mistake until after the game had finished.

The trend of over exuberant officiating continues with Carlos Simon sending off Teddy Lucic. It didnt effect the outcome of this particular match, but I am leery of FIFAs new directive. It is only a matter of time until a team is sent packing because of undeserved red cards

New records have been set for both yellow cards given in a WC and for reds. 23 reds have already been shown , surpassing the old record of 22 (France '98) - with 12 matches remaining. The old record for yellow cards was set in 2002- 272, we already have 291 and should end the tournament well over 300 ,

Well if any of the other games were like the Portugal/Netherlands game (equalling the yellow card record and setting a red card record) there will be beat all records ... it also depends of the ref's

I actually agree with most of the cards in that particular match- it was out of hand.

It may be out of place in this thread, but what is with all of the deliberate/ obvious handballs? Did everybody forget you cant use your hands, or is there a prize for the best Maradona impersonation that I am unaware of?

I was thinking the same thing. There have been a few really blatant handballs that have occured in big situations that haven't been called at all.

I actually thought most of the cards given in the Portugal game were legitimate also. The game really was getting bad, the ones early in the game however were pretty ridiculous. NEvertheless, as the game progressed, it got quite dirty and rough and the ref was justified with most of the later yellows, I thought.

hmmm, maybe we should start guessing the number of cards handed out in addition to the outcome of the matches.

The Yellows to Saha and Sangyol were unwarranted. They may come into play if France get by Portugal and one of these players gets cautioned during the match
