When Taylor Hicks returned home during the week before the finals of American Idol, the soulful singer was greeted by not only legions of fans, but his mom as well.

Taylor's mom, Pamela Dickenson Phillips* did a short interview with TMZ at the time about how proud she is of her son and gave him some good advice. "Keep up the high energy and keep it in control" - she says - before sweetly saying "I love you."
So - many that are not deep into the "Soul Patrol" wondered - where is Taylor's biological mother duting the AI performances.

Star Magazine has the story ready for publication in this week's issue and reports:
As Taylor Hicks captured the 5th American Idol title on May 24 in L.A., his father, stepmom, and half-brother were all in the audience cheering the Alabama native on, but where was Taylor’s mother?
According to Star, Taylor’s mom, Pamela, has been battling alcoholism for years, which caused his parents breakup and in turn subsequent separation from her son.
The he said/ she said battle between his mother and father stirred up more trouble in court during their divorce, as false accusations were made by both sides and Taylor was caught in between.
By 1988 Taylor’s mother began to turn her life around, and now they are very close in their hearts even though not physically close together.

Taylor Hicks certainly comes across as all class - I'm still not certain why he catches so much heat from so many critics.
