I think that Michael shot Ana-Lucia and let Henry go, so that they all would hurry up and go after him, or get everybody together, force Sawyer to give up the guns, and then they'd all wage war against the others.
I think Michael is desperate to get his son back, hates the Others, doesn't feel like anyone else is anywhere near as serious as he is about getting Walt back, but also realizes now that he can't do it on his own. He is now doing what he can to rally the rest of the guys on his side, so that they see the urgency in taking the Others down with Sawyer's guns.
