I need to confess something right off the bat. As if many of you didn't already know, I dislike rock music. To me, it's just a bunch of screaming and jumping around. I frankly don't see what people see in it, and it disturbs me when a contestant stands up there and sings a well delivered ballad and gets chastised by the judges for "playing it safe" or for being "boring."
Therefore, it's very difficult for me to give an objective review of tonight's performances, but I'll give it my best shot. I will try to block out the horrible so-called music and evaluate how I think each contestant handled what they had to work with.
Bucky did a decent job, but I'm thinking that he will probably find himself in the bottom three tomorrow I 'd give him a 6 out of 10.
Ace was very mediocre. I actually picked him to be a finalist at the begiining of the season, but I think he has gone steadily downhill since then. I expect him to be in the bottom three. I'd rate his performance a 4.
Kellie wasn't bad, but not great either. I agreed with the judges' appraisal of her performance, and would give her a 7
Chris did all right, if you can tolerate that kind of noise. I just hate it. There was one night a couple of weeks ago when he sang a real song, and the guy actually has a nice voice. To my way of thinking, he's wasting his talents, but I guess that's where the money is. I will grit my teeth, try hard to disrerard what he sang, and give him an 8 tonight.
Katherine LIke all the rest, I wish Katherine had sung a better song than she did, but let's face it. She was stuck with Queen. I identified her from the start as having the best, pure singing voice of the lot. I still do. I don't know if she will win or not, because the rockers will probably go for Chris or Taylor, but in my mind, she is the one most worthy of the Idol title. Tonight, I would give her a 9. The judges agreed with me on that.
Elliott has a great voice. I would rate it second only to Katherine's, but I think he lacks the style and charisma to pull in the votes he would need to win. I do think he could make a career for himself with the voice he has. I'd give him an 8 tonight, but I have a funny feeling he will be in the bottom three again.
Taylor did well tonight. I liked his voice from the beginning, but there is something about his personality and mannerisms that bother me, and I can't put my finger on it. For one thing, as Simon has said so often, "It's a singing competition" and Taylor seems to put a lot of emphasis on his dancing and wiggling. If you isolate just his voice, I'd say he is maybe the third best singer in the group. He might win it all, but he doesn't come across to me as an American Idol. For tonight's performance, I would give him a 9.
Paris is Paris. She is very good for someone her age and with her lack of experience, but her style reminds me too much of Fantasia, and I didn't care for Fantasia's singing. I think she will hang around and be in the final four, but I don't expect her to win. Tonight, I would give her a 7 for her performance.
The eventual winner is going to have to show his or her stuff well in the final weeks to pull it out. I don't think anyone has a leg up at this point, but the cream almost always rises to the top, and in my mind Katharine is the one who has what it takes to knock everyone dead, if she gets the right songs to sing in the coming weeks.
Tomorrow's show is an hour in length, so they are obviously going to have some Queen performances to fill the time. The only Queen song I ever liked is "We Are the Champions". I have been looking forward to a group performance and they have yet to do one. I am hoping that they have one tomorrow and that they sing that song. The rest of Queen's stuff, you can have!
And Heck, do you know who you reminded me of in that post?
Like my little bro said... drop the beer.
AZ, it's nice to read a review from you. I knew that you wouldn't like tonight's show, simply because you can't stand rock. But, you stuck through it, and watched the show. Kudos to you!

I had to take notes on this one so that I would remember the next day what everyone's name was. I think there were some really good ones last night. I loved Paris's rendition of The Show Must Go On. I'll write something for each person later sometime after I get home from school today.
"Man is a marvelous curiosity ... he thinks he is the Creator's pet ... he even believes the Creator loves him; has a passion for him; sits up nights to admire him; yes and watch over him and keep him out of trouble. He prays to him and thinks He listens. Isn't it a quaint idea." Mark Twain
AZ, I listen to Taylor's vocals on an internet radio station. You really appreciate how great he is when you just hear the vocals and are not distracted by the dancing.
