I saw this movie on Friday (opening day) and it was really good!!

I'm not a fan of Antonio Banderas, yet after this flick, I like him!

Director: Liz Friedlander
Stars: Antonio Banderas, Rob Brown, Yaya DaCosta (Full Cast)
Studio: New Line Cinema

The Plot: A former professional dancer (Banderas) volunteers to teach dance in the New York public school system. While his background first clashes with his students' tastes, together they create a completely new style of dance.

User Rating:

THE BUZZ: Hey, this sounds like Mad Hot Ballroom. Wait, it is, it's just been dramatized so more people will see the story of dancer Pierre Dulane. With this performance, let's hope Banderas doesn't take the same liberties as he did when he sang Jorge Drexler's song at the 2005 Oscars. We're a bit surprised that New Line's going wide with this one.
P.S. America's Next Top Model fans should keep an eye out for cycle 3 runner-up Yaya DaCosta in a starring role.

Review: 3 out of 10 stars: Perhaps this is just a case of bad timing for New Line Cinema. The studio that Freddy Kruger built already had Take the Lead in the can as Mad Hot Ballroom, a documentary on New York City public school kids and the adults who teach them to rumba, tango, etc., started to cash in on its film festival hype for Paramount Classics...

I saw this Saturday. Of course it isn't the greatest movie ever made, but I love watching people dance like this. It was actually a better movie than I thought it would be. And I was laughing a lot - and not b/c it was lame, but b/c of the jokes.

Yes and I love Antonio Banderas.

The only thing that really bothered me with this movie was the ending. When they were at the ball room competition, and changed up the music, and did the circle with the dancers. I just DONT see that happening with a real competition. I have to wonder if that was changed from the original 'story' (since it's true) and made more Hollywoodized!

oh i'm sure they changed it. there's no WAY that would happen at a real competition. no WAYY. my mom and i said the same thing when we saw that. I loved that tango that girl did with the two guys. i knew they'd be disqualified but it was still cool. and i DOUBT that snooty girl "shared" the prize in real life too. That part was cheesy.
