On MSNBC Last night Simon Cowell said the following to Rita Cosby:
Rita: Who do you think will win? What’s your prediction on who’s gonna win? Who’s gonna take it all?
Simon: I have a horrible feeling the public is going to vote for Taylor, and I’d prefer Chris.
Simon did not want Taylor to go to Hollywood. He is the one behind the record label that the winner is signed to, so he wants Chris as the winner. Taylor could win over 99% of America, and Simon would still be nasty.
Taylor's album that he made a year or so ago has sold out. They are going for $200 on ebay, and there is a huge waiting list for a copy. They have to make more. He will sell albums just as well as Clay did or even better.

I don't really know why Simon cares so much who wins except for hating to be wrong. He works for BMG UK, which owns RCA UK, which of course is a sister company of RCA US, which signs the winner (or a branch thereof like J Records); but Simon doesn't own that label in any shape or form. He doesn't have any control over the winner's album or what's on it; all of that falls on Clive Davis (as exec producer), the A&R rep the winner is assigned to (that's the person that actually finds material for the artist), and the producer (who might also cowrite a lot of the album's material). If the winner's lucky, a little input comes from him or her. I've never even heard definitively if Simon even gets a cut of the winner's sale profits. I can't imagine he does cuz 19 Entertainment takes half of it up front (they're the automatic management company for the winner). Doesn't leave much left for everyone else who has to get paid besides the artist.
Soooooooo...I'm not sure why he makes these statements every year except for ego purposes, cuz outside of judging, I don't see that he's really all that invested.

I don't see WHY Simon would get a percentage... he's being paid, and quite well, I'm sure, to audition these people, and be a judge through the entire contest. He's got an ego the size of Texas, and it's rather annoying.

You all know we all disagree with Simon most of the time. I think he is playing Devils Advocate for the most part. Remember how he picked on Clay? Now he glows about him. A little too little a little too late.
Clay sued and got out of his contract and is among the leading draws in the country. He made a wise move where as Ruben. Ruben who? Spent all his money and had to have the big entourage. What a waste. Has anyone heard of him lately?
Clay had a concert in Arizona and a big tour where he is breaking all records but where oh where is Ruben?

Simon doesn't get Taylor anymore than he got Clay. Taylor's CD's are selling like crazy. There is a two week wait for mine to come. Taylor is unique and he will be someone that stands out in the music scene. I ♥ Taylor
Thats the most out of line uncouth remark he has made since he told Clay he would never be the
American Idol cause he was not sellable. His mouth could swallow the East river. I pay no attention to him and neither does the Americans or Canadians who vote for the contestants each week. He is just an ill mannered Brit.
