I have a theory that--if you keep going higher and higher up the ladder until you get to the kingpin of union activity--you'll find a double-agent kind of person.
This would be someone (or a group of someones, perhaps) working for the Communists and other dictators in places such as China.
They get paid so much to cause unrest and economic problems in the United States so that their countries will end up getting the work assignments.
Of course, in a Communist nation, the workers would actually see very little of the money with most of it going to the Heads Of State.
This isn't just limited to problems caused by unions, either. It's also the kind of message being sent to people that they're entitled to sue big businesses for things that aren't even the fault of big business.
Case-in-point: How the entire chain of Chi-Chi's restaurants got closed down because bad food was found in one location. And--taking it a step further--don't you wonder how the food-poisoning got into the food there?
Don't even get me started on this theory. I have so much more to say about it, but this is a thumbnail sketch...
quote:
EUCLID said this in post #120 : I agree that unions have bid up pay rates beyond the value of the employees. And that makes the disparity between U.S. wages and offshore wages even greater. In the past, when people talked about manufacturing jobs going offshore, they meant hands-on jobs such as assembly and fabrication. But now, with the Internet and cad design, engineering and design jobs are flying out the door. It would have been impossible 20 years ago, but today, with cad design, the entire product is only electronic data, so the logistics of outsourcing it are easy.
We usually think of China as producing cheap consumer products, but that will quickly change. Soon they will be producing bulldozers, locomotives, oil field equipment, and all automobiles. Meanwhile, in the U.S., a mechanical designer can make as much money mowing lawns as he can designing lawn mowers.

12 million votes I do not know of any politician that wouldn't want to champion those people for those votes!
Power and wealth
an excerpt from an e-mail I just sent a friend - who is now not a friend LOL:
"US can close the borders at any time and do not, why? Think about it. I ask you, no I beg of you, to open your mind and think about WHY the US stood by year after year and DID NOTHING. Please think, the US would NEVER have done that if there was not a HUGE GAIN IN THE ECONOMY from these people as a cheap labor force. They will not admit it, cause they have to play both sides, they have to cater to the people with your opinion to get votes. Do you know how many people, powerful people, have gotten wealthy off of exploiting these people? I wish people would stop kidding themselves. The US cares about power and wealth. They couldn't give a rat's ass if you didn't want illegals here. They would have this country drowning in them if they thought it would further their power and wealth. They only agree to stop it because of terrorism, drugs and saturation of the work force. It has nothing to do with how many are here and laws they broke to get here. The gov doesn't care about their culture or that you don't want to be a minority in your own country. If they did, they would have stopped it a long time ago. They don't care because they LOVE them little Mexicans cleaning their houses, cutting back their trees, taking care of their children, cleaning their presidential suites and washing their expensive dishes. They LOVE that you HATE them getting any ss and medicare. MORE MONEY FOR CORRUPTION. OH did you think they were gonna give to you? LOL It is such a win win for the gov. They are laughing all the way to the bank. They love that the "illegals" are building their million dollar houses because they get done faster and cheaper. More money, more profit.
If the gov gave a **** about employers giving these people jobs, they wouldn't let them. They would actually enforce the laws. THEY DON'T. Ask yourself and your friends why. Ask why when I was given a job at the Dept of Justice, during my behind the scenes tour with the head of personnel, why did she tell me they DO NOT CARE HOW MANY ILLEGALS COME ACROSS they ONLY care about the drugs and criminals? OUT OF THE MOUTH OF THE GOV directly - don't believe me if you think I am insulting and an idiot. Believe it when it comes straight from them.."

"You act like it is so easy for these Latin American people to find paths to legalization, oh they should just do it the legal way, what a load of dog ****. There are no paths to legalization for the middle to low income class in Mexico. You say, then they shouldn't come, WALK A MILE IN THEIR SHOES and tell me if you would come or not.
It is all an atempt by people to hide their racism and desires for a white "American" culture. They say, deport them and make them come legally. People know that is not possible to come legally, so it is a way to not sound racist, and fix their problem at the same time. A means to an end.
There are valid arguments, the healthcare system, jails, the amount of people coming, the lack of assimilation (for their own good and betterment of their children's education), etc.. but back to my original point, it is not BLACK AND WHITE. You cannot across the board deport them all as if they are dogs. You can't deny all of them SS and medicare. You can't say all of them abuse the system."
This is an extremely complex issue and an issue that is dividing many people..
Racism has a lot to do with it, we can all think we are beyond that now, but we do not care when Irish people stay here on "extended vacations". We do not care when people display flags from other nations (other than Mexico), or even St. Patrick's Day Irish items - everywhere.
I wish the Mexican government were held accountable. I wish that our country's history and Latin America's History wasn't filled with the blood of indigenous people. I wish that money and power were not at the root of all problems.
I wish that the border were secured by the technology we already have so I don't get blown up by a terrorist and the drugs could dry up a bit.
I wish that there were no poverty and that our neighbors to the south could live the way most of us do. I wish that they were all lucky like us and were born in a more wealthy country or at least a better distributed wealth.
They are here, we must treat them with dignity, they came because they wanted a better life. That should not be a crime. The Mexican government should be on trial for the misery of their people, they should be jailed and charged with felonies.
We can't let an unlimited amount in from now on, we can no longer be the Mexican gov's pressure valve release. They must be made to better their country and if that means a revolution, so be it. Many die in search of a better life crossing the desert, let them sacrifice their lives for something that will affect real change in their "home".
Yes, Mexicans are the original Americans, yes the US has been a bully and used its political and military power to enact the Treaty of Guadalupe which many argue is an illegal treaty, but the present problems have to be dealt with in the present. I do, however wish that people were educated on "real" history and not blinded ny the 7th grade Columbus Day rhetoric and God Bless (only) American ethnocentric and egocentric crap..
It is not black and white or even brown and white. Many of us say we are Christians, ask yourself "what would Jesus do?"

I just hope in the end we don't end up realizing that we are all wrong with our "Deport all them dirty Indians, I mean Mexicans" attitude...........
I am a Gemini and probably bipolar, and a bit confused.
I am on the side of human dignity and equality.
BUT this issue is so complex it can drive you crazy!
Both sides can be presented with such compelling facts and both arguments win with me at times!!!!!!
I just know that the truth is that the US government and Mexican government are to blame and we have a mess on our hands.
I don't believe they should all be deported.
I do believe the ones here should get some sort of worker program and should be entitled to "rights" and, if they qualify, SS and Medicare when they are the appropriate age. I think that is the right thing to do.
The only way this will get better in the long run is to hold the Mexican government accountable for their people.
BUT this issue is so complex it can drive you crazy!
It is complicated. It goes in many different directions. It is the one issue that the leadership of both political parties agree on. They are for massive immigration, not only from Mexico, but from all of Central and South America for two reasons:
1) Cheap labor for business.
2) A pool of new voters.
On one hand, open borders appears to be compassionate. But how compassionate is it for big business to exploit the economically disadvantaged people for their dirt cheap labor?
Were the slave holders compassionate because they gave the slaves jobs and fed them?
I think anyone who is waving the banner of immigration compassion should stop and consider that this particular compassion amounts to using the poor to make the rich richer.
