The Cell post #1  quote:

I just bought The Cell by Steven King. Wow!!! This guy thinks so far outside the box that I don't think he's ever seen the box. This one has some similarities to The Stand in that the premise is about the end of civilization as we know it. It's all caused when people who are on their cell phones at a particular time go absolutely nutso. From that time on these people are known as the "phone crazies." King has an brilliant explanation for these happenings but I had to read it several times before I could get it all. I couldn't begin to repeat it. I'm only about half way through the book and I have to think that it's one of his better stories.

I've nearly finished "Cell" and for a story that started out like a house afire it slowed down to a slow stroll just about half way through. There were so many insignificant things happening that I had a hard time keeping my mind on the story.

I saw it at the bookstore, last week, and never picked it up. I just thought... "It can't be better than The Stand!" Nothing ever is. So, I didn't bother.

I was thinking of grabbing it... it does look appeal to me more than anything he's been writing in the past 5 years. Unfortunately I've got so much to read, I'll leave it until its in the bargain bin, no doubt

Good idea. You may want to pass it up then. Actually the first half of the book was so good that maybe wading through the last half would be bearable.

Now see, the first part of the book was quite uninteresting for me. It wasn't until the middle that I really got into it! I found myself almost wishing for a fast forward button at the beginning. But after the scene at the school and what the group did, I was plastered to the book. Now I had to tear myself away from it so my daughter could read it.
