Arnie said that without admitting his guilt and asking for forgiveness there could be no clemency.

It is sad that the state had to put a man to death, but his crime was more sad. The circle of violence is complete and five people are now dead. Time to move on.

I read this quote in another story:

After watching her longtime friend die, Barbara Becnel told the crowd of hundreds gathered outside prison gates that she would prove Williams' innocence and that Schwarzenegger was a "cold-blooded murderer."

Huh? The only time Arnie shot people dead with a shotgun was when he played a robot sent from the future. Tookie did it for real.

I don't know the specifics of the case, but to sentence a man to death... there's gotta be a pretty good lot of evidence against you to be able to get that doozy of a punishment. And if what Arnie says in HECK's quote up there is true, he's not admitting guilt yet asking for forgiveness?? Naw...

I am opposed to the death penalty in all cases, and there are many cases where people are put to death where there is so much misconduct and/or lack of evidence. In one case the condemned man was sent to the electric chair and his head burst into flames; and THEN they decided to hear his case and overturn the conviction. It's just unfair.

However, if you do read about the evidence and witnesses for this case, it's a very solid case against Williams that doesn't just boil down to witness testimony (this is exactly how the guy I mentioned earlier was sentenced to death). He even incriminated himself during police interviews without suggestion, they asked him how many shots were fired in the killing at motel, he said five twice and then denied it. That's information only the killer would know.

Nonethless, I don't believe in the death penalty, but I don't see Williams as a reason to push for abolition of the death penalty or clemency for the condemned. Had his crimes been directly related to his gang activity, then I would be much more supportive.

I still voted that his life should be spared because as HECK said, 5 people are dead now. I don't see justice served, just vengeance.

But to the people supportive of the death penalty, they should see the play The Exonerated, it's about 25 people exonerated and actors playing out their interview. I believe there is a TV version (at least IMDb says so: The Exonerated). The guy playing Jesse is the guy I mentioned earlier, he was on death row with his wife, but was executed before his conviction was overturned.

one and only, if you want to discuss the Iraq War, do so in the proper forum. Lawless gave you a polite warning, if you ignore it you could find yourself in violation of forum policy.

If you need to discuss the matter further, PM myself or any other Moderator or Administrator here.
