EXCERPTS:
Syrian President Bashar Assad said that cooperation among his nation, Iran
and Iraq would create a barrier against "occupiers in the region," a
reference to the continued U.S. military presence in Iraq, state television
reported. At the end of a two-day visit ... , his Iranian counterpart,
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said Iran welcomed "cooperation among Iran, Syria and
Iraq," which he said would produce "large benefits for all countries
in the
region."
. . ..
Assad also met Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and one-time
President Hashemi Rafsanjani.
... An account of Assad's visit by SANA, the Syrian news agency, did not
mention Iraq by name ... .
Syria and Iran, which share many policies in the region including support
for Lebanon's Hizbullah called for "constructive cooperation" with the
resistance group "to block the violation of rights of Iraqi and Palestinian
people."
. . .
On Sunday, Ahmadinejad had greeted Assad as "a friend and a defender of the
Iranian nation" and vowed to strengthen ties between the two countries
brought together by "shared threats." . . .
EXCERPTS:
The just concluded visit of ... Assad to Tehran for talks with ...President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was clearly meant to establish a new axis of power ...
amidst growing strains in their relations with Western countries. Both
countries are feeling increased threats from Western powers
,,, ,According to IRNA, Iran's official news agency, Ahmadinejad described
his talks with Assad as aiming to form a "united front" against what
he
called their common threats. ... .
[IMRA: While IRNA does not mention Iraq, Assad's statement referred to
cooperation among Syria, Iran and Iraq, as reported in The Daily Star
(Lebanon).]
The new Iranian president obviously made cementing relations with Syria one
of his early priorities ... Tehran has made it well-known that the US and
Israel top the list of its foes. Syria is also facing strained ties with the
US and other Western countries over Lebanon and Iraq, not to mention Israel.
The creation of a new axis of power in the Middle East has effectively
created a new geopolitical reality that all countries in the region and
beyond may have to reckon with. With the US and Iraq continuing their
accusations that Syria is fuelling the insurgency in Iraq by neglecting
border controls, Damascus finds itself at loggerheads with Washington and
Baghdad over the Iraqi conflict. Damascus, therefore, needs friends in and
outside the Middle East in the face of growing US hostility.
Iran has not come away unscathed from all these Western confrontational
policies. In particular, it has not escaped the US accusation that it too
funds and supports the Shiites in Iraq.
But there are still some puzzles in the fast developing situation in Iraq
affecting both Iran and Syria. Iraqi President Ibrahim Jaafari made an
official visit to Tehran recently, also to cement a new relationship with
his country's mighty neighbour. The Shiites in Iraq find in Iran a close
ally and would want nothing less than to forge stronger ties with it. On the
other hand, both Baghdad and Damascus continue to suffer from fast
deteriorating bilateral ties because of the persistent charges by Iraq that
Syria is harbouring terrorists whose target is Iraq.
The pressures on all the parties, the desperate efforts at bonding and the
many contradictions in relations with Iraq spell trouble.
Bush voices suspicions over Iran's nuclear intentions
CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) — President Bush said Tuesday he was "deeply suspicious" of Iran but was not ready to seek United Nations sanctions against Tehran for its suspected nuclear weapons program.
Speaking to reporters at his Texas ranch, Bush said the newly elected president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, had indicated a willingness to continue discussions with European nations.
This is all a given, yeah Iran is stepping up their nukes, yeah it takes 10 years to produce fully fuctioning nukes, so.......................how far along are they?
What about the Syria, Iran, Iraq, Afghani, Pakistani, "Palestinian" and Saudia Arabia gog alliance?
Any folks who are really doubting the poison of Islamic jihad really need to take a look at what is happening before our very eyes!
These alliances intend to kill anyone who does not believe in Allah. Period.
