I play. I haven't had any formal lessons but I know how to read music.
Just remember
you got the four strings
G---------------------------------------
D---------------------------------------
A---------------------------------------
E---------------------------------------
G is the highest pitched, thin one. E is the lowest pitched, thick one.
Each fret is a half note up.
0 | 1 | 2 | 3| 4| 5|...........
G |G#|A |A#|B |C |...........
D |D#|E |F |F#|G |.............
A |A#|B |C |C#|D |.............
E |F |F#|G |G#|A |.............
you can play with your fingers or pick. I prefer fingers.
learn some scales... have fun
