Oslo (Reuters)Inuit hunters threatened by a melting of the arctic ice plan to file a petition accusing Washington of violating their human rights by fueling global warming, an Inuit leader said Wednesday. Sheila Watt- Cloutier, chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Committee also said Washington was hindering work to follow up a 2004 report by 250 scientists that said the thaw could make the Arctic Ocean ice-free in summer by 2100.
Watt-Cloutier, in Olso to receive an environmental prize, said the Inuits' planned petition to the 34 member Organization of American States could put pressure on the United States to do more to cut industrial emissions of heat-trapping gases
The most interesting aspect of this story is that the Inuit tribes are starting to complain against the United States.

THE melting of sea ice at the North Pole may be the result of a centuries-old natural cycle and not an indicator of man-made global warming, Scottish scientists have found.
After researching the log-books of Arctic explorers spanning the past 300 years, scientists believe that the outer edge of sea ice may expand and contract over regular periods of 60 to 80 years. This change corresponds roughly with known cyclical changes in atmospheric temperature.
The finding opens the possibility that the recent worrying changes in Arctic sea ice are simply the result of standard cyclical movements, and not a harbinger of major climate change.
The amount of sea ice is currently near its lowest point in the cycle and should begin to increase within about five years.
i'm simply astounded by the human conceit that we have the ability to dramatically change the climate of the earth. the earth will be just fine with or iwithout us. volcanoes spew out more pollution than humans ever could, yet the U.S. is causing global warming?
I believe humans can change climate somewhat. For instance, global warming is caused by the releasing of too much carbon dioxide.
Also, the United States is using too much fossil fuels which may hurt the environment.
Maybe Armageddon is just talk. I hope it is

i did some looking after your post. i stand corrected on a few points. (thank you for keeping me on my toes ). as for co2, humans outproduce volcanoes. and volcanoes apparently have a slight overall cooling effect on the atmosphere by releasing sulfur dioxide into the air.
that being said i still believe that humans don't affect the earth's climate.
it's accepted that the medieval times were quite warm. and around 1700 marked the end of a time called the little ice age. both times are well before the industrial age and it is my opinion that we are just in a period of overall natural global warming.

I don't think anyone is blaming the U.S for causing global warming. I think this backlash is the result of the Bush administration resisting calls for mandatory curbs on carbon dioxide emissions. Senators John McCain and Joseph I. Lieberman have been pushing legislation to establish a pollution trading system, which of course, lacks the votes for passage under the Bush admin.
I wonder how people can still discuss about the validity of research studies proving that greenhouse gases emissions by mankind is affecting the climate ... Volcanoes have always existed and disturbed the global climate, however only humanity is producing continuously mass quantities of such gasses.
In France, thay calculated that the emission of greenhouse gases by the cattle was 3 times the equivalent of the combined one emiited by all the refineries on the territory ! Cows are emitting about 160 gallons of methane per digestion cycle, and methane is 50 times more "efficient" as a greenhouse gas than CO2. Amazing.
This is not farts but burps. Cows are digesting the plant's cellulose thanks to bacterias living in symbiosis in their complex stomach. These anaerobic bacterias are the one emitting methane in such large quantities.
