Wang Chung is just a name. Wang is actually Huang in Mandarin, which is basically a common surname like "smith" or whatever... and Chung is Zhong in Mandarin, and is... also just a name... but it also means clock... but they just mean the thing to be a name and not mean anything in particular.
They used to be called Huang Chung, apparently, then changed to Wang Chung. I think because they realized half the name was mandarin, the other half was cantonese (making them look really, really dumb)... can't think of any other reason for it.
I worked all that out by looking at this album cover 
PS. Vanilla Ice... dunno, I do remember some rapper becoming a priest (Mase comes to mind, but someone from the early 90's too)... wasn't Hammer, I don't think. Though he didn't make a lot of music lately, I just can't picture it  Vanilla Ice's stuff is pretty sexually explicit, so its doubtful he is...
