Those of us you served more than on hitch, or changed assignments know the saying;
"There no place better then then place your going or worse than the place your coming"
When I look back at my military career I have fond memories of each and every base that I was at and it's hard to pick a favorite.
Here is my list in order excluding Basic Training and Specialist Training.
March AFB CA
Anderson AFB Guam (3mo TDY)
Keesler AFB MS (instructor)
Wright Patterson AFB OH(Reserves)
Norton AFB CA
RAF Fairford UK
Mather AFB CA
Ellsworth AFB SD
Theres are more if I count TDY of less than 3 months.
I think my all time favorite is March AFB, sunny Southern California, 1 hour from LA and Hollywood. 1 hour from the mountans and Big Bear.
My least favorite is Keesler AFB
Anderson was very nice but was on a island in the Pacific not much to do. Great restaruant there when I was there.
RAF Fairford it my favorite overseas base. Located in the Cotswolds of England. Beautiful area but lots of rain an fog.
Ellsworth was nice in the summer but harsh in the winter 75 deg below zero lots of snow.
