Hilary Duff On Growing Up
DUFF CONFIDENT SHE WON'T BE A DYSFUNCTIONAL ADULT
HILARY DUFF believes she has low chances of growing up to become a dysfunctional former child star - because she wasn't pushed into her career.
The teen singer and actress, who has been in showbusiness since the tender age of nine, has watched a number of young stars grow older and become resentful wrecks as their careers fade. But Duff would like to think she won't be a statistic.
She says, "I think I'm really lucky, I'm happy. I think so much of the difference is when I was younger I grew up watching so many of these older people and the difference is that they didn't get to choose if they wante d it. Their parents made them do it.
"Or they started at such a young age they didn't have a choice, and that's not really how my sister and I started. I was old enough to know that I liked it. Another thing is a lot of them, I think, are the main income for the family, so they kind of don't get disciplined like normal children. They get away with a lot more because they're supporting the family."
