Good question, Malcolm xx!
There is a small amount of financial aid, medical supplies and food being provided to East African countries hit by the tsunami. An entire island in Somalia was completely washed away, leaving many dead or homeless, as well as destroying crops, roads leading to clean water wells, and access to the basics that most Africans rely on for their already modest survival.
I hope more people will take notice of the death toll that is still rising in East Africa. I get a little perturbed when I don't hear anything about it on the news too. The South African government, who is heavily run or influenced by the people of Boers "tribe" ancestry and beliefs, are only providing financial aid to South-East Asia. The UN is now trying to raise funds to aid the people of East Africa, since most of the donated funds from around the world are going directly to South-East Asia.
If you make a donation, most charities will allow you to request that your funds go directly into the aid for the East African people.
It's too bad that there isn't more news coverage on the devastation that has also hit East Africa. There very well should be!
