Airbus A380 Claims World's Biggest Passenger Aircraft Title post #1  quote:

Airbus unveils giant A380 plane

Tuesday's official unveiling of the enormous Airbus A380 will be a milestone in aviation history.

The ceremony will mark more than a decade of development of what is widely seen as a triumph of design and engineering.

Billions of euros have been handed over in "launch aid loans" in recent years - under generous repayment terms - to assist Airbus's development of the A380.

This has angered the US, which is home to rival aerospace giant Boeing.

Until last week, the US had threatened to take the European Union (EU) to the World Trade Organisation over what it claimed were illegal subsidies. The EU had responded to the threat by claiming that the US was itself paying illegal subsidies to Boeing.

"illegal subsidies"? what the heck is that all about? I don't see any problem with government financing of major programs like this on either side. How lame!

Congrats to Airbus, what an achievement!

Smile; It confuses people.

Europe and the US have both mutual interests in their aviation industries, for european sub-suppliers work for Boeing while american ones do the same for Airbus. Threatening each other of retaliation because of "illegal subsidies" might be of some interest politically speaking (welle that's already debattable ...), but has little to none relevance considering economical realities.
