Tourism as usual post #1  quote:

Here's a little touch of insanity:

Killer waves, then a day on the beach
quote:
Just days after the tidal wave disaster, one of the devastated beaches was returning to normal yesterday.
[...]
the tragedy was becoming a memory, albeit a vivid one, as they made the most of the weather and topped up their tans.
[...]
"Our friends think we're mad. The only risk we face I think is if there's another quake. We love the place that much and we thought we would take the risk," he said.

How about the risk of becoming deathly ill as a result of the diseases that are surely about to begin spreading through the waters from the rotting corpses? How about the risk of becoming infamous for appearing entirely insensitive to the tragedy that has just befallen and in fact continues to unfold?

I had been half-heartedly planning vacation before the Tsunami hit and was thinking of maybe Thailand or somewhere round there. I would not consider going there now, unless I was a doctor or something and could help. When they get everything cleaned up and presentable again, I would love to go and give some of my tourist money to the people to help them get their everyday lives back up and running.

To be there sunning yourself and drinking beer while there are people meters away pulling dead bodies from rubble and mourning loved ones is so insensitive. I sholul hope that any tourists that are in these areas have at least ASKED if they can help with the aid efforts, ifthey've not already done a full day work before they get their tan and beer.

Let's go with this freak show. It's outrageous.
