Lord of the Rings voted the best film
'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' has been voted the best film of 2004.
The third and final instalment of the J.R.R. Tolkien trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson, topped a poll to find film fans' favourite movie of the year.
The epic adventure beat off stiff competition from a host of big-screen hits, including 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind', starring Jim Carrey, which came second, while 'Lost In Translation', which features Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson, finished third.
Other entries in the top ten included children's blockbuster 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban', British zombie comedy 'Shaun of the Dead' and super-hero movie 'Spider-Man 2', starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.
The poll, conducted on behalf of BBC1 programme 'Film 2004', quizzed thousands of viewers across the UK to find out the films they most enjoyed.
The win for 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' completes a hat-trick of victories for the series, after the first two films topped the polls in 2002 and 2003.
