Pocket PC's post #1  quote:

My wife recently bought me a Cassiopeia Pocket PC (since she found hers, and wanted to get me one to match), and I was wondering if anybody else has a Pocket PC, and was wondering what kinds of programs, games, etc, you have and find interesting/helpful.

I've installed PocketMVP to play music (I use MP3's encoded at 56k to save space) and videos (doesn't play fluidly, I think the encoding is too large).

I've also got Rayman Ultimate, which is an awesomely fun game with great graphics. Quite addictive, however not extremely complicated.

And Pa Pa Go, which is a navigation program...... in case I, you know, get lost or something.

Other than that, I'm using the organizer that comes with Windows CE, and trying to work out PocketMoney, but haven't as yet.

Anyways, anyone else have a Pocket PC?

I have a Toshiba e750 Pocket PC and suggest you take a look at http://www.handandgo.com , there are thousands of programs. I have a GPS CF card for mine and I use it when I go on a trip as a moving map display, I also program in my turns. My wife uses it for her Medical Assistant course and has downloaded a medical dictionary. I use a little program called Diet MP3 and can load a whole bunch of mp3's on a SD card. And I'm looking at taking a DVD and converting it to Windows Media and placing it on a 256mb sd card. Then I could watch a movie on my Pocket PC anytime. My PPC is also wireless 802.11 and I used it to set up some surveillance cameras that I installed. I set up a wireless bridge climbed up the light pole were I installed 3 cameras and was able to look at the camera image while adjusting the cameras to get them pointed correctly. I can sit on the can ( I know too much info) and read the news or sports scores or surf the net wirelessly.

So yeah there is a lot of stuff you can do with it.

I love the Rayman series - it represents one of the last stands for games which are not rooted in violence and destructiveness. The artists have produced a wonderfully ornate environment with glowing graphics, and even the boss characters end up being "not such bad guys after all" in the end

LoL, the first time I played a rayman game I laughed my butt off at him becoming friends with every enemy he defeats. I kept waiting for them to turn on him in the end or something I guess society has molded me to expect such things, even in computer games.

The site is great Ron, I may grab a few things from it that look good in the near future. Unfortunately I spent money on things like Sim City 2000 for it, and now I'm ticked off after remembering how boring it gets before too long. Crazy, blew $20 on Sim City 2000 that I felt like playing for about 5 minutes, and then spent $5 on this silly bejewled game that is extremely addictive

I'm not a big gamer, I got a lot of utilities there and things to help me in my work like Earth Voyeur which allows you to put in just about any webcam from anywhere and view it realtime (as long as you are connected to the internet). Got some GPS stuf, If you have a GPS card you there is a great thing called Geocaching at www.geocaching.com where you can search for hidden treasure. Ok not treasure but stuff. Check out the site and you'll understand. I right now looking at Pocket DVD Wizard www.pocket-dvd-wizard.com that looks real promising.

I use Pa Pa Go with my GPS card... works well. I haven't played with it that much, but apparently I can input my destination, and it'll give me directions as I drive like I said, I haven't tested that though...

That geocache thing seems interesting - have you tried to seek anything out? I dunno, it is a really peculiar idea, but very intriguing.

I'm still trying to get movies to flow smoothly on my pocket PC. The dvd-wizard looks like a good program, but if I can't get a movie to work it'd be a waste for me still working on that.

I was trying to think of a possible use I'd have for the Earth Voyeur program, then I realized, if I set up a small webcam at home, I may be able to check on my dogs and see if they're misbehaving - from anywhere...

The thing about Geocaching is how big it is, it is in almost every country and with thousands of geocaches world wide.

I'm still fighting with the Pocket DVD Wizard. I did see tonight that it should be used on Windows XP and I am on Win2k pro. That might make a difference. So far the 5 minutes in the trial version look smooth so I went ahead purchased it. Then I started have greater problems. But again, it might just be my PC.

Update, there was nothing wrong with Pocket DVD Wizard. It was my sound card. Go figure. I created a 1 hour DVD onto a memory card and watched it. It looked like pretty decent quality and the sound was awesome.
