'mandate.' what a laugh! did you know, usanow, that the margin of victory was the smallest by any incumbent president in history?
it's common to have a number of changes in the cabinet and staff of a second term president, but the way things are going, it sure doesn't look like bush's appointees are riding on the mandate bandwagon.
too bad we just have to sit back now and watch bush's 'mandated' presidency slowly implode.
Jim, why don't you address the points. I agreed that the popular vote is relevant. Not as relevant as the electoral college. But in any event, Bush won both. I can't help the fact that you don't appreciate a 3 million plus margin of victory to be significant.
But regarding the mandate - it's not just the popular vote that matters. The Republican party picked up several Senate seats, and about a dozen House seats. In addition, gay marriage was rejected in all 11 states where it was on the ballot.
So the conservative, Republican agenda was clearly preferred to the Democrat liberal agenda. That is just a simple fact.

why the devil do you make such an issue of gay marriage. kerry & edwards came out against it. i am against it. i never considered that to be part of the democratic platform. but the righties made sure to deceive the bible belt that the democrats would institute 'gay marriage', socialized medicine, and all the other lies they told. there are truths (bush is and was a liar) and there are falsehoods (the dems will take away your guns).
bush didn't win the election fairly (i still believe there was significant voter fraud) and he most certainly did not win a mandate. well over 40% of the country hates his guts. the percentage for the rest of the world? who knows? maybe 80%.

How can you say "Bush didn't win the election fairly" followed by 100% pure conjecture of what you believe. Either publish the proof, or admit Bush won.
Secondly, Kerry/Edwards were going to socialize medicine - that's not a lie.
Socialized medicine is probably better than the system we have now. The doctors' labor union (AMA) writes all the medical legislation and Congress rubber stamps it, in return for appropriate remuneration. This keeps the market out of the medical care equation.
