Dekka00 said this in post #3 : both gave very good answers to this and the first few questions. A clear winner didn't start to emerge til a little later.
If Bush were smart, and he may just be smart enough to do this, if reelected, should also do the things Kerry outlined. They are simply things that need to be done by the Commander-in-Chief of the United States, regardless of who is actually in office.
I wonder what would have happened if Bush had given the answer he did, then added "and my opponent's ideas are sound, I plan on doing that as well." An honest, humble politician would be a strange, rare sight.
Couldn't agree with you more!

104TH CONGRESS
2D SESSION S. 1580
To provide funding for community-oriented policing, to reduce funding for
the Department of Defense, and for other purposes.
IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES
FEBRUARY 29 (legislative day, FEBRUARY 28), 1996
Mr. KERRY introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred
to the Committee on the Judiciary
(a) IN GENERAL.—Notwithstanding any provision of
the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 1996
(Public Law 104–61), the Secretary of Defense shall
transfer $6,500,000,000 of unobligated funds appro-
priated under such Act for fiscal year 1996 to the Violent
Crime Reduction Trust Fund established under section
I don't think anyone would claim that increasing funds to reduce violent crime is a bad thing. But that wasn't the issue that was raised. The link with the pdf and the text Ron pulled from it was to illustrate that the earlier claim that the bill did not exist was completely false. It also is just one of a long line of examples of times when Kerry has voted against the national defense and military funding. Yet now one of his platforms is complaining about not having the resources and manpower to finish the job in Iraq. Clearly his voting record indicates that he is himself guilty of the charges he's making towards the Bush administration.
Certainly no presidency or administration is perfect and without fault. But it seems a little ridiculous for the blame to be entirely pinned on one presidency when the records and documentation of the opposing candidate clearly shows fault in regard to the issues he's claiming.

By the way ICB, I'm going to take away your savings because you aren't using it and I'll use it to buy a new car. Never mind that you could use it next year to buy food or clothes, you just don't need it today.
