USA Dumps Spain 102-94; Marbury Scores 31
ATHENS, Greece (AP) - The U.S. men's basketball team found its shooting touch and outscored previously unbeaten Spain 102-94 in the Olympics tournament quarterfinals.
Stephon Marbury set a U.S. Olympic record with 31 points, the Americans made 12 three-pointers, and topped 100 points for the first time in the tournament.
It was rowdy. As the teams left the court, U.S. coach Larry Brown and Spanish coach Mario Pesquera were pointing angrily at each other and had to be separated by their assistants.
Allen Iverson added 16 points, Carlos Boozer had 12 and Lamar Odom eleven for the Americans, who will play either Argentina or Greece next.
Pau Gasol led Spain with 29 points.
