Miami, AAA Ready For MTV Video Awards
Music Industry’s Brightest Stars To Arrive By Limo, Yacht
MIAMI -- Miami wanted its MTV, and on Sunday, the city’s AmericanAirlines Arena will become a glitter dome of the music industry’s top stars at the Video Music Awards.
The show will be seen by a worldwide audience and marks the first time in its 21-year history that it will take place outside New York or Los Angeles.
Some musicians will arrive by limousine, but true to the city’s unique geography, stars will arrive by yacht, walk a red carpet up the beach and enter a reception area behind the arena with Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline serving as a backdrop.
MTV employees have been working on the arena all week, building elaborate sets and arranging seats for the VIPs who will pack the building. But they’re not showing their hand, or the sets, until Sunday.
But employees told NBC 6 that there would be multiple stages in a 360-degree setting.
Last year, the show's most talked about moment was an onstage kiss between Madonna and Britney Spears.
