I have this theory that dementors cloaks are actually lethifolds, for several reasons:
1)They're both black.
2)The Patronus charm is the only thing that works against two things: Lethifolds and Dementors.
3)If I remember my Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them correctly, you get a cold feeling when you're around a lethifold as well as a dementor.
4)Harry described the dementor's hand as looking like a corpse that had rotted in the water.
Can lethifolds drown? Maybe one went to attack a human and fell in the water before it could digest it completely, then some kind of hocus pocus turned the two into a dementor.
Just wondering what everyone thinks.

Hmm, I don't think they are. It would have to be a symbiotic relationship. I just don't see dementors and lethifolds having anything to share.

I don't know what a Lethifold is, but I do like how CelticDragon came up with that theory There's a couple of interesting connections there... though I gather Fuscia knows what she's talking about when she says it's probably not true. Still very interesting
