CitiBank customers: Possible Scam Alert post #1  quote:

A convincing, but probably phoney message made to appear as though it originated from citibank. I've forwarded it to their email spoof group (emailspoof@citigroup.com) - The link they provide in the email is invalid, and I'm not a citibank customer which is what really made this stick out. So beware.

Though this message appears innocuous because the link was invalid, we could have had real trouble if citibank's website was secretly hacked and the page added that would collect customers' account informaiton when they submitted it in the form according to instructions in the email below.

Recently there have been a large number of identity theft attempts targeting Citibank customers. In order to safeguard your account, we require that you update your Citibank ATM/Debit card PIN.

This update is requested of you as a precautionary measure against fraud. Please note that we have no particular indications that your details have been compromised in any way.

This process is mandatory, and if not completed within the nearest time your account may be subject to temporary suspension.

Please make sure you have your Citibank ATM/Debit card and recent statement at hand.

To securely update your Citibank ATM/Debit card PIN please go to:

https://www.citibank.com/signin/cit.../update_pin.jsp

Please note that this update applies to your Citibank ATM/Debit card - which is linked directly to your checking account, not Citibank credit cards.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter and thank you for using Citibank!

Regards,

Zachary Kirkland
Head of Citi® Identity Theft Solutions

Hey Sean, I've gotten the Citibank one, two or three times now. I've always just deleted it as spam...sounded too fishy...but I'll admit, looks pretty authentic. I'm just not a trusting person so I assumed it was a fraud...now I know.
