DOMA as the Defense Of Marriage Act is now being called is being hotly debated in the senate as I speak.
We don't seem to have any posts in this section since back in June, but let's not forget how important this issue is. I don't mean that this is important just for Gays but it is critical for all human rights. We must not have a Constitutional Amendment that restricts the rights of a minority (Gays) because a majority (fundamentalist Christians, Right-wing fanatics and Homophobics) want it. The Republicans in the senate kept spouting out about the peoples will and how polls are against gay marriage. Well if the southerners were allowed to vote for or against segregation in the 1950's we would have "colored" and white water fountains still to this day.
Remember they called the Judges in the Brown VS Board of Education "Activist Judges" also.
The purpose behind the Judicial Branch of Government is to balance the will of the people vs the Constitution (and the obvious truths behind our government such as "all men (and women) are created equal" and that "the church should not be able to legislate laws based on religious teachings." (the last quote is from me)
