If I was President of the U.S.A. post #1  quote:

If I was President of The United States of America, these are some of the things I would try my best to accomplish

Institute a flat tax so that everyone would pay their fair share of taxes with no deductions and no loopholes.

Enact a ceiling on political campaign contributions so that more qualified people could run for office.

Send the media to school for a dummy exorcism.

Set narrow limits for terms of political tenure.

These are some things I would try to do. What would you do?

I would institute a nation health care plan. If that meant raising taxes a bit, then fine. Because, I believe that access to health care should be a right. Or, I would offer tax credits or deductions for companies that provide their employees with company-paid health care plans.

My plan would include laws against some of the current polices of HMOs that exclude patients from receiving the care recommended by their doctors. For example, you would be able to get prescriptions filled at any pharmacy; under your plan you would be able to have coverage for any medication your doctor prescribes. This could mean a higher co-pay but, currently HMOs decide which prescriptions are covered for specific conditions and which are not covered, at all. Additionally, alternative therapies would not be excluded from coverage if recommended by your doctor.

I'll think of some more later...this is just my health care related plan.

If I were President... Probably do just what every other President has done recently. Think up ideas for everyone else to poke holes into, work harder to plug those holes, catch flack for not being able to please everyone all of the time and go to bed at night praying to God our country is going to find the sunrise in pretty much the same good shape it was in the night before no one made any decisions on improving it. Job like that... takes a real sense of dedication to even roll out of bed in the morning, don't you imagine?

post #5  quote:

1. Abolish the IRS and deductions and go with some kind of flat tax.

2. try to come up with a Health Care Plan that won't break the bank.

3. Do more for civil rights. Or better said, try to promote harmony among the races.

4. Try to boost military pay.

5. Do away with taxes on inventory. It slows down our ecomony every november to december. All these companies try to reduce inventory and not pay taxes on it, then start back up in January.

Lot of layoffs around that time of year because of this. Just wait till the product is sold to charge tax on it.

6. I'd try to make Unions stronger and more popular

7. I would be against stem cell research from fetusus and abortions. And against abortions. Never be elected again, but we are dreaming here anyway.

8. Man, I'd like to see some kind of program run by the goverment, that is not quite a militia, or national gaurd, but maybe put teenagers and young adults (voluntary of course) into a 2 or 3 week boot camp, and teach them military basics, how to handle a firearm, basic marching, stuff like that.

Then you are out. Just some rudimentary training for a few weeks, then you get out. No strings attached.

Show the general population what military service is like. Learn some life skills.

I think it Switzerland, I'm not 100% sure, that makes military service mandatory for everyone.

Not talking about anything like that, just a voluntary enlistment for a very short time to train the masses.

9. I'd try to change the 4 year term to a 6 year team for pres, like the senators have.

It costs so much money and spends so much energy for an election, it would save a bunch if they were in there for 6 years.

10. I would get all this tv broadcast, cable, satileite mess cleaned up. Make one standard for all of them, be it the FCC or whatever,
local news stations are stopping all kinds of neat things from happening with cable, etc, you can't get local programming from other cities.

I can't get Fort myers T.V. on my dish network, cause it's illegal.

I would change stuff like that.

Hey...I forgot about this thread.
Along the line of Whidden's #4...increase military pay.

I would definitely increase pay for military and/or initiate some other type(s) of incentives. Faced with an ongoing war on terrorism and the possibility of serving up to 24 months, overseas, even for Guard and Reservists; something needs to be done or military enrollments with continue to drop dramatically.

On the abortion topic...
I would never seek to make abortions illegal. However, I would aggressively seek to reduce the number of abortions performed; if not for any other reason, but for the reason that this is a topic that highly divides the country. EDUCATION is key...and realistic education that teaches planned pregnancy , which would include abstinence but also contraceptive use. Along with this we would educate on sexually transmitted diseases. For anyone that complains...too bad! I would have the facts taught. People can apply their personal morals and beliefs within their families; to the factual information that teens would receive in school & community programs.

Yeah, Anomaly, the troops need better pay, that's for sure.

They are serving the country, yes, and don't need to be rich or nothing, but they should at least be able to afford to support a wife and kid at home without having to go on food stamps.

You could never pay them what they are worth, but try to give them some basic buying power.

I would establish a financial policy in honor of Schwarzenegger which states that the govt. may not under any circumstance spend any more money than it actually has to spend; i would make it a priority to enact legislation that puts us on track to eliminate the national debt because owing people sucks.

Maybe, instead of having to go on welfare or use food stamps; there should be a specific federally-run program to assist families of active duty military.
