Originally known as the Knights of Walpurgis. They are the followers of Lord Voldemort. Voldemort only has to touch the mark on his arm and the same dark mark on his death eaters grows hot and they apparate to his side. This is done by a protean charm . The Death Eaters wear dark hooded robes and masks. They also cast the Dark Mark into the sky over a house where they have killed. The Dark Mark is a spell only known to Death Eaters. It is a green skull with a snake coming out of the mouth.
List of Known Death Eaters Avery -first death eater to beg and grovel at Voldemort's feet upon his return. Has been punished several times by Voldemort for his failings as a death eater.
Regalus Black younger brother of Sirius Black. Joined the DE and tried to get out. Was killed.
Crabbe -father of Vincent Crabbe
Barty Crouch Jr. -sent to Azkaban for torturing the Longbottoms. Believed to have died in prison, but actually was smuggled out and lived under the Imperius Curse at his fathers home. Escaped and impersonated Moody using polyjuice potion. He lured Harry into the Triwizard tournament, where he turned the trophy into a portkey sending Harry to Voldemort. Given a kiss by a dementor.
Antonin Doltov One of the death eaters, there were five, who murdered Gideon and Fabian Prewett. Was sent to Azkaban, but escaped in 1996. He tried to kill Hermione in the Department of Mysteries and severely injured her.

Igor Karakoff-Caught by Auror Alastor Moody. He gave testimony against other death eaters to avoid jail. Was headmaster of Durmstrang Institute until he realized that Voldemort had returned. He then fled. Whereabouts unknown.
Bellatrix Black Lestrange pure blood witch and sister of Narcissa Black Malfoy and cousin of Sirius and Regalus Black. She has heavily lidded eyes, black hair, and was once very good looking. Sent to Azkaban for the torture of the Longbottoms, Bellatrix escaped in 1996. Obsessive follower of Voldemort, she considers herself to be his most loyal servant. In the Battle in the Department of Mysteries, she tried to torture Ginny Weasley, and she hit Sirius with as spell that knocked him into the veil presumably sending him to his death. With Voldemorts help, she was able to escape the DOM.
Rabastan Lestrange -brother of Rodolphus, sent to Azkaban for the torture of the Longbottoms and escaped in 1996. Fought in the Department of Mysteries.
Rodolphus Lestrange brother of Rabastan and husband to Bellatrix Black Lestrange. Sent to Azkaban for the torture of the Longbottoms and escaped in 1996. Fought in the Department of Mysteries.NOTE-all that were sent to Azkaban for the torture of the Longbottoms were given life sentences.
Walden Macnair Executioner for the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures. Served as Voldemorts envoy to the giants. Appears to have gained their trust and loyalty to Voldemort. Fought in the Battle in the DOM.
Lucius Malfoy -husband to Narcissa Black Malfoy, father of Draco. Rich pure blood wizard who has influence at the Ministry of Magic. Lucius evaded jail after Voldemort's downfall by claiming to have acted under the Imperius Curse, and then worked at maintaining a respectable front. He served as a school governor at Hogwarts until his scheme was uncovered.
He is the leader of the death eaters, and was in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. Captured, he is currently in Azkaban. Note-Draco likes to show off that his dad is powerful and often gives away secrets accidentally.
Mulciber -Specialized in the Imperius Curse. He had already been captured by the time Karkaroff came to trial. Karakoff's had tried to trade Mulciber's name for his own freedom . Fought in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries.
Nott -father of Theodore. Was able to avoid Azkaban, and was there when Voldemort returned. Fought in the battle of the Department of Mysteries.
Peter Petigrew aka wormtail. Was a member of the Order of the Phoenix. Turned Lily and James in to Voldemort when he was secretly made their Secret Keeper. Faked his own death and lived in his animagus form of a rat(scabbers) as the pet of Ron Weasley. Sacrificed his left hand for a potion that brought Voldemort back.
Augustus Rookwood-worked for the Department of Mysteries. He was a Spy and had agents throughout the Ministry, not all of whom knew who they were really working for.
Sent to Azkaban by Karakoffs testimony. Escaped in 1996 and fought in the battle of the DOM.
Evan Rosier -Killed by Aurors c. 1980, shortly after Karkaroff's capture. He resisted arrest and was responsible for the missing chunk out of Moody's nose.
Severus Snape -technically still a death eater. He is a member of the Order of the Phoenix and is a double agent. Voldemort still believes that he is a true follower. Only Dumbledore knows why he changed sides. Currently Potions Master at Hogwarts and Head of Slytherin House.
