I have to say that I agree with you, Duane. While we are every changing, advancing... I see so much that stays the same. While history is interesting... doesn't it seem like we're constantly repeating ourselves, over and over?

Nothing's changed... hmmm, well this is an interesting subject. I think many things have changed, but as humanity, we are repetitive in our actions. There is a song by Midnight Oil called Short Memory, I will try to find the lyrics - very relevant to this subject.
Short Memory - Midnight Oil
Conquistador of Mexico, the Zulu and the Navaho
The Belgians in the Congo short memory
Partition of Arabia, the Raj in British India
The deadline in South Africa short memory
The story of El Salvador, the silence of Hiroshima
Destruction of Cambodia short memory
Short memory, must have a, short memory
The sight of hotels by the Nile, the designated Hilton style
With running water specially bought short memory
A smallish man Afghanistan, a watch dog in a nervous land
They're only there to lend a hand short memory
The friendly fire the dusty smile
Wake up in sweat at dead of night
And in the tents new rifles hey short memory
If you read the history books you'll see the same things happen again and again
Repeat repeat short memory they've all got it
When are we going to play it again
Got a short, got a short, got a short, got a short
They've got a short must have a short they've got a short aah
Short memory, they've got a short memory.
"Ah, my favorite book. Chapter twelve, paragraph eight, verse three: the universe hates you. Deal with it."
-Harper
"We are here. On your left would be a black hole we'll call, say, uh, 'rock'. And on your right: one we'll call 'hard place'."
-Harper
seeing as human beings always have the same instincts and gut behaviors .... even though the circumstances and society may change.... as a whole, nothing does. did that make any sense?
Kevin: Remember that one time when I ate those napkins?
Me: (laughing) Yeah.
Kevin: That was funny. Do you remember what made me do it?
Me: I'm pretty sure you just said, "Hey, watch me eat these napkins".
Kevin: (laughing) Yeah, that sounds about right.
