The husband of “Married by America” contestant Denise Luna tells Inside Edition in an exclusive interview that she sent him a “Dear John” letter as he served in the Navy stationed in the Persian Gulf.
Alan Hari tells Inside Edition he was devastated when he received a “Dear John” letter from Denise as he served on an aircraft carrier in the Gulf in 1995. He says he first suspected something was wrong about two months into his tour when he “couldn’t get a letter from her and I was writing every day. “
Hari tells Inside Edition, the letter said, “Basically it was over. I was pretty much devastated because I had just relied on, when I got back, I was going to have something stable in my life.”
When asked the reason she gave for seeking to split, Hari said, “I never got a full answer out of her. She told me she loved me but she wasn’t in love with me, whatever that means.”
Currently separated but not divorced from Hari, Denise apparently did not tell Fox producers she was married. The producers of Married by America are keeping Denise sequestered so she was unable to be contacted for comment.
The couple had met in a club where Denise was working as a waitress, Hari tells Inside Edition. They married in 1993.
Hari tells Inside Edition the split was devastating to him: “Just from the way I was raised, everybody gets married and you get married one time and that’s commitment, you make that commitment for the rest of your life.”
Hari tells Inside Edition that even after these many years, the split still “stings.”
“I still love her as a person but I don’t love her as a spouse,” he tells Inside Edition.
Hari also tells Inside Edition he would not go on a show like Married by America: “That should be a personal thing between the couple, not the rest of America.” But, he admits, he will probably watch Monday to see what happens.
