Deduction of commuting expenses

My wife lives and works in one state. Recently, I took a job in another state, rented an apartment there, and commute by plane on weekends. This is a permanent job, but we are looking for jobs in both states so that we can work in the same state.

My questions are:
1. Are my commuting expenses deductible?
2. Does this answer depend on whether we file jointly or separately?

Unfortunately (or fortunately), my employer has reimbursed me for almost all the moving cost, so my moving deduction is very small.

Are there any other benefits associated with having a different tax home from the spouse's?

But NO, you don't get weekend trips back and forth for conjugal visits. They come out of your own pockets.

But there are other tax strategies if you can work part time at your spouses' tax home location..... check with your advisor.
