If some yo yo calls you long distance and says "You better buy XYZ stock it's due to double very soon. " Say you buy it and lets split the profits. If a friend tells you the Pres of some co. told him to buy his stock-refer him to Martha Stewart. If someone you know tells you he has inside info on some co. but they can't be reached right now because they are on the way here from some foreign country-forget it. These are only the iceberg's tip. Any of this happen to you?

The types of phone calls & tips you're talking about are based on one of two things:

1) Insider trading - can lead to trouble

2) Sucker born every minute principle.

On piont number two, you have to understand that there is NOBODY in the world who gives a rat turd about helping you get rich. They want to help THEMSELVES get rich. You let them talk you out of your money, no matter what kinda of pretty picture they paint around it, you validate the notion that there is indeed a sucker born every minute.

"Playing" the stock market takes actual WORK to be good at it. This is the case with ANY means of making money. There is no such thing as "get rich quick" - again, nobody wans you to get rich, they want themselves to get rich. No matter how many signs they show for channelling money your direciton, there are ten times as many signs channelling your money to them. If you want to make money in the stock market, or in real estate, or in "placing tiny classified ads in newspapers to make thousands and thousands of dollars", you're going to need to do some work.

Once you've gotten into the mindset of "okay, I'm prepared to do some research, leg work and perhaps some investment into my future" - take your pick of industries to apply it to because there is money in EVERY industry imaginable - that's why those industries exist.

Watch your back because nobody else is.

Investing is not the same as gambling .Investing requires more study and research than your entire college degree demands. It's probably one of the most complicated areas in existence. There's something new coming up each day. Selecting a stock, placing money in same will create a great interest in the world around you. Even a small investment works. Buying options is gambling. Junk bonds are gambles. Procter and Gamble is an investing contrast. Not telling you to do it-just trying to clarify the issue.

Here's my stock market tip:

Put your money in your bank... a savings account, and put money in each month, and don't spend it.

Playing the stock market... no thanks!! It's too risky, in my opinion.
I don't give my money away... I work too damn hard for every penny that the government let's me keep!

If you have an IRA or other retirement tax deferred plan, where do you put that money?
