becker said this in post #61 : I like to buy things at a place that presents its wares with low prices.
I can't be angry at Walmart.
Fast food places pay the lowest wages they can and stay legal.
I dislike INTERNET shopping because returning the goods is a pain.
I will order from the "Net' if what I want is not available locally.
Walmart accepts returns without any hassle.
And "Net" ordering may be unsafe when using a credit card.
That's a fallacy. The internet is no more dangerous than using a credit card or check in the store. Identity theft happens anyplace anywhere. Next time you write a check, think of how easy it would be for a person to use all that information.
I've never had a problem with the goods I buy online and when I have, it was always simple. A warranty a year out is not a problem because the transaction is in their computers, send it off, and it's back in a week's time replaced. I've only had to replace one item I've bought online. Bottom line, I know what I'm going to buy when I buy it.
Wal-Mart will always get a thumbs down, hey I don't eat fast food that much either, but it's very different from the Wal-Mart superstore. A fast food chain is not the kind of place that kills the area competition, thus taking away the economic opportunity in the immediate area. At least at Costco, most of the workers are insured; can you say the same for Wal-Mart? No. They also have crazy policies where they lock people in the warehouses at nights, just the read about these unsavory business practices, you'd think you're reading about a Chinese sweatshop. They need to make a change if I'm going to buy from them. If that means higher prices, I rather have those higher prices.
I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.

"Man is a marvelous curiosity ... he thinks he is the Creator's pet ... he even believes the Creator loves him; has a passion for him; sits up nights to admire him; yes and watch over him and keep him out of trouble. He prays to him and thinks He listens. Isn't it a quaint idea." Mark Twain

I don't like how it crushes local businesses. I live in a very small town where everybody knows each other and is somehow related to half the population. A Wal-mart moved in next door a few years ago and drew crowds of the younger generations who don't think about the consequences of this action. Soon Wal-mart killed off the local businesses run by our friends and family. With those people out of work it makes our town even poorer and with pennyless people unable to donate extra to our school, our school is pretty pitiful. Example of how poor we have become: our math textbooks are issue 2. Our math teacher was using issue 6 in her highscool when she was our age. I realize that Wal-mart is not the only cause of my town's poverty, but at the moment I'm going to place all of the blame on it.

I live in Scotland and just last year Walmart came in and took over a big chain that used to be very nice. Now the products are so bland and mass produced that all the originality has gone out. The merchandise looks just like any cheaply made merchandise at any Walmart in the US. It takes all the fun out of being in another place. I hate Walmart.

I suggest you follow the "Money' trail. We send our tax dollars to Washington. Try to find out how our "reprsentatives" spend it so selfishly on their own pet projects. There is a huge "Wastage" percent that is built in to our government. Also we are undergoing very rapid changes in our job markets. If you are not versed in some form of Health, Nanotech, Law, etc, you wil find it difficult to find well-paid employment. Walmart is only one cause of the problems that beset your community.
jrkiv said this in post #24 : what other company in the world hires old and handicapped workers just to say hi when people walk in the door?
.
I know some other companies that greet people at the door and are better than Wal-mart. How you like it irkiv if Wal-mart were the only place to shop for anything. The Only yes it is successful and does the smart thing to lower prices and hire nice little handicapped workers to say "hi" to you once in awhile, but we consumers are being cheated by our own desires. Walton knew this about consumers and also knew that most Americans will not shop anywhere else if the prices are lowered. We as consumers should say, "Wait a minute, we as consumers want more options in our shopping experience so in turn we want quality goods. Wal-mart isn't churning out these quality goods but is creating a surplus, selling cheap unwanted goods such as they are."
You must turn on, tune in and drop out.

Yes, Wal-Mart employees are allowed health and dental. I know this for a FACT.
Whether that would be more? Depends.
Depends how many hours you average per week, but that's the same for Target too.
And I shop Walmart whenever I darn well please.
They did more for the peeps after Katrina than anyone.
They were there when FEMA wasn't.
And their products aren't worse or better than Target or K-Mart.
I suggest if peeps want top dollar items they try Neiman Marcus, Saks, etc.
And you'll find there too, that Neiman Marcus jeans wear the same as Rider or Wrangler brand.
But Neiman Marcus is more hoity toity.
Heck, I won't even go to Walmart for clothes anymore. I bought two excellent pairs of pants at the local thrift store today.
I've been wearing the same 4 work pants for two years....I got 4 different colors at Walmart for $9.00 each.
I am not a fashion queen and I don't give a rats ass. I buy clothes only because law requires I wear them...and I get cold in the winter. That's it.
Otherwise Walmart sells perishable and consumable items cheap....why the heck do I care how long my toilet paper lasts in the sewers????

If your enjoyment comes from paying more for the same crap as others sell. [All made in China] you have my blessings and sympathy.
